Context, son. Larry Parrish posted:So what you're saying is only jackasses have callsigns No, but those are the only entertaining ones I can think of. Tube is actually one of the funniest guys I've ever met, and UTAH's callsign comes from his George Costanza-like temper. Actually everyone on that list is pretty cool. The douchebags are usually the ones who refuse to play the game, because it means letting your guard down from your careerist self-preservation.

Yea, there is a rich history of AWACS guys dating women significantly older than they are. We had a perma-tsgt in Alaska who was early 30s dating a 60 something year old.

You do NOT get to pick your own callsign and the worst thing you can do is try. Possible exceptions are if it's a family thing. We had a guy who became a third-generation "Petey" based on last name. Pretty sure that's the only one I've ever seen that got one he wanted. Social Reject picked his too, unwittingly.

Well it wasn't actually sadbrains, surprisingly, given my history. Something is actually (probably) physically wrong with me (they just don't know what yet). At least I don't have any phantom ball pain. But yeah I'm far from bummed about being denied PRP, I'm well aware of the shitshow that is nukes, it's the only community that's neck and neck in a race for the bottom with the one I'm currently in.

The best callsigns pass three tests: 1) The CNN test: Suitable for TV should you ever make the news. 2) The bar test: Won't stop you from picking up bar floozies. 3) Above all else, no matter how cool it sounds, it's either an insult or, at best, a pun based on your name. E.g., "Colt", a flight surgeon I knew. He can tell the ladies it's because he's a young stud, but we all know it means Comb-Over Looks Terrible.

Not at all, but it's also in one of the highest cost-of-living areas in the nation. When I was looking at jobs at Ft McNair I found a lot of GS9s and 11s who had roommates or were looking for roommates. Granted, 90k is more like GS13 level, but no, it's not normal to jump from E-4 to the civilian pay equivalent of a Lt Col.

That's super dependent on AFSC. Just about all the network guys I've worked with who bounced after one enlistment started with 85-100k at their next jobs. One dude literally works as a GS-13 at his old squadron in Texas. Dunno if you could pay me enough to work with mil as a civilian, though. Living the dream?

He's delusional, or confused, or exaggerating. (Or worst and must likely of all- being lied to) there isn't a single goddamn one of you fucks that's popping out to 6 figures after doing one 4 year enlisted bid with the AF. With loving very few highly specialized and high demand exceptions. Not now, not these days. If you were the guy smart enough, lucky enough, and networked enough to do that in 2015 in the era of sequestration and looming programatic shutdowns and budget uncertainty.. Well, you probably could have made much more money in just about any other way. The days of 100k contracting for recently ETS'd snuffy to check badges at the FOB Victory DFAC are over. If your pretty good at unfucking say.. UAV, small airplane, or Rotary wing avionics? As well as specializing in some engines and some airframes that are really unique, or you are either and NDI or RAM guru.. You can get yourself setup with decent cash flow contracting, pretty easy. But as you can already tell this almost always requires more than one term, and is limited to some pretty niche as gently caress fields. All technical but blue collar. Any normal 4 years at the help desk Air Force comms guy who does a bid and gets out and thinks he's just a signature away from fat stacks and easy street with a contractor? loving . Just loving

Those jobs probably also have about an 80% turnover rate. Nobody pays that much money for the good jobs, or the jobs that are easy to fill/keep filled. But the jobs are loving awful, the locations are loving awful, the company is loving awful.

In two years it goes into an administratively inactive state, and you can only bring it back after that (maybe) if you're working for the same agency that sponsored the last renewal. It's also not a free ticket to jobs like idiots claim.
