Of the hundreds of phrases coined by The Simpsons that made it into regular use, "speed holes" has always been one of my favorites.

Do it badly yeah okay that's a fair call but do it well and it's worth every single cent. You do a CAI and exhaust on a Commodore, you are looking at 40+Kw. 60Kw+ with a reflash. I would have expected Fart cannons or pod filters.

^Put one on many other cars and you're likely to lose power and/or hydrolock an engine. Most CAI kits out there are garbage, but yeah there are a few unicorns that actually understand physics and things.leica posted:Yup, totally forgot about the SHO, is it that fast anyway? In 2012 when I was considering one, some company dropped a tune on the market that put their mostly stock SHO through the quarter mile alongside a '12 Camaro SS. Edit: Ok I can't find that video anymore, but this gets the point across. SHO has intake, exhaust, suspension, and LMS tune (which is probably the company I was thinking of). I'm finding other videos showing high 12s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRumeg1W1PM Godholio fucked around with this message at 23:45 on Sep 25, 2015 |

I stand by the CAI answer because most of the ones on the market, for most cars on the market, are really hot-air-sucking garbage that doesn't do anything useful. Probably not helped that mentally I lump "pod filters" in with the rest of them. There certainly are ones that do help, especially for GM V8 products where intake restriction seems to be their favorite pastime.

InitialDave posted:It's fairly clear that people put them because knobends do a crap job of them thanks to not understanding the gap between how they should really be implemented and their own bullshit cargo-cult approach. So? Every mod you can do to a car that works has it's opposite in ricer poo poo or way to gently caress it up. Does that make them worthless? I'm standing by what I said. Do it right, you get a huge payoff and it's worth every single cent. And as I said, pod filters and fart cannons, oh yes that poo poo is a waste. A good CAI and exhaust isnt unicorn stuff either - it's not even rocket science to do it right. Even cardboard and strategic removal of factory resonators can work brilliantly.

Enourmo posted:I feel like I'm gonna do good on at least one of tomorrow's answers. 3rd place motherfuckers, if all goes well I could win this again. E: Also most modern factory intakes are CAIs, so unless you're doing a complete system replacement including tune and probably power adders, an aftermarket CAI will do jack poo poo and probably lose power at a lot of spots.

The SS is an overchromed car that shouldn't count as a sleeper (4.6 0-60 at over 40k? psssh this is a standard daily down under) and the SHO is enormous and heavy. I saw one street parked once and it was nuts, practically an RV. I don't even own a Fiesta ST, but the stuff people are doing with them is pretty nuts! Question 11: Surprisingly, some of us also like to take a break from fixing our shitboxes to watch television. This TV show is absolutely on point when it comes to the cars in it. Question 12: Lots of rumours in the news about tech companies maybe, possibly breaking into the car manufacturing business recently. I would trust this company to get it the most right of all of them. Answers soon...
