What sucks about it?

It's got a pretty antiquated 50 point system. It could be vastly improved with a tighter tree and one point per skill so you don't have to consult a wiki to understand it.

Perfect or no, it adds another dimension to the game, and that would be a good dimension to add to this game as well.

Really liking the Bright Wizard. I was worried that her mechanic would be too limiting, but if you make sure to vent every few seconds to stay out of the red zone, you can be lighting rats on fire the vast majority of the time. Which works astonishingly well. And when poo poo hits the fan and someone is being carried off by a packmaster while everyone else is getting swamped by clanrats and there's a ratling gunner tearing the group apart, you can really get stuff done if you just say "gently caress it" and unload. I can't decide which staff to go with though. I like all of them except bolt.

So, what tends to do better melee dps against Rat Ogres, anyways? Light attack spam or heavy?

Depends on the staff you're using. If it's the Beam Staff, the Beam, if it's the Conflag? The firebolt. Just figure out which gives you single target DPS for the least heat.

Now to work on not catching every other swing from the drat things while hitting it with a Warhammer or Arming Sword.

The bolt staff is pretty fun but requires much better aim than I have. Being able to take out gunners or globadiers with one charged headshot is nice, though.

Same goes for witch hunter's crossbow

Also, give me my drat flamesword game! No, i do not want yet another conflagration staff, just gimme a burnysword!

It's visceral enough that I can see myself picking it up whenever I feel like some mindless slaying for a while. DLC will hopefully spice things up with new heroes, enemies and game modes.

Watched a guy in a stream get the top blue on a normal game. Big fuckoff hammer for the soldier, then he got a green rifle with 50% reload speed.

It's not too popular with streamers though. I watched the excalibur guy do a stream earlier today with 3k viewers but most of the time it's small streams with maybe 100 people.

To be fair, long range specialist seems to be the hardest role to pull off in this kind of game. My huge experience of 4 maps tell me so.

On the other hand high level trinkets make things a lot easier. There's one that causes health items used to also heal those around you, and one that gives you a chance to not consume a health item when used. You can stack them together.

I've only really noticed that they remove the starting health item. Maybe I'm just playing with more experienced people so I didn't notice the jump.

Stormvermin and Rat Ogres kill you in two hits flat on merciless, and from what ive heard Stormvermin take off 90% of your health on cataclysm. You also deal 100% friendly fire damage with ranged weapons and bombs. Enjoy!

Yeah okay I can see higher level equipment and trinkets helping out a lot, as for differences I've noticed just tonight on Normal you can pretty much *not* go into a building/room-behind-a-door without bumping into some sort of stash of potions, health-kits, ammo bags or bombs (or any combination). On hard we were scampering for stuff like ammunition between the fixed spots and health... well maybe if we were lucky there'd be one potion or health kit in between the event rooms/finale.

The difference is big enough that you could easily have 1 more difficulty mode jammed in between normal and hard (veteran?) with either just the item changes or the skaven buffs of hard.

Hard isn't much harder than Normal as long as everyone has gotten used to the combat. Blocking is required on Hard to avoid wasting huge amounts of health.

I wish people would catch on to healing potions being much more effective if used right after being revived, since it turns your temporary health into permanent health. Meaning you end up with almost full health.

drat are you making GBS threads me? That isn't explained anywhere and I figure most people would assume it's like L4D in that it's just your temp health or pills.

Not going to even joke around that what attracted me to this game was that it looked like Left 4 Warhams.

Playing with goons has been very good. Pubs on the other hand have been pretty amazing in a bad way. Played with a pub Bright Wiz who was at something around 80% and burned all the way into the red by dumping fire at a pack. Never again. Joining that Goonintide and playing with goons from CTS Mumble from now on.

Just tried this game and it really feels to me like a skinned over L4D with a less optimized graphics engine and a grindy inventory system. Even more disappointing to hear that the levels don't really do much. Since the whole "Payday 2 CS:GO gun skins transactions" thingy I was hopeful. :smith:

If there's more to the levels than meets the eye I would like to know. I am hopeful. :ohdear:

In addition to what everyone else said, there's also a scaling in-mission difficulty thing where there are hidden items you can grab that take up inventory space and/or debuff your team but which make you get better loot, meaning if you're running into a "difficulty x is too easy, difficulty x+1 is too hard" thing you have access to an intermediary step.

I honestly couldn't stand L4D, firing weapons in that game was like holding a limp dick with a trickle of piss coming out of it.

Meanwhile every gun I've come across so far in Vermintide has made a huge loving bang and feels so satisfying to use when things die.

Speaking of difficulty I mentioned this in the group I was just in: They probably expect you to do the campaign on normal at least once, and you'll have minimum 13 upgrades/sidegrades from doing each mission and more than likely 5-6 more from levelling. So by the time you hit Hard it'll probably be easier than just wading in with basic white gear.

Not that it isn't doable right now of course. There were more than a few nailbiting moments in that hard Supply and Demand we just did though. :v:
