The most sense I've been able to make of it is that gay reactionaries view women as political opponents, which undermine their full masculine prowess by voting for liberalism and socialism. That's why we need a Masculine Ideology like Fascism or Ancient Athens to put women in their proper place and liberate Men from Leftist femininity. Only then will me, the surely indispensable gay MAN, be able to maximize my power and standing. There's also a weird undercurrent of self-hatred where they would prefer to be kept in the closet, ala Milo.

Shame, there is a black sun in Glorantha too, except its in charge of a place called "Bliss in Ignorance" a place that grows huge amounts of drugs and is basically the Aztec empire on steroids. I wonder if the creators of Glorantha knew about this sort of poo poo way back when?

Not to mention that huge breasts (and the bigger and more pneumatic the better), wide hips and thin waists who are hanging off the male hero are an ideal of womanhood that they are more than happy to indulge in. Not to spring the weeaboo trap but part of the reason why there's so much garbage anime is that the actual market for heavy anime watchers is pretty much entirely made up of antisocial young men who are willing to spend hundreds on figurines and blu ray releases. This niche has also been shrinking for a while and big parts of the industry are locked into the spiral with it.

Then they had their most recent revival when they managed to get the properties out to more mainstream audiences and make them more inclusive overall (with much wailing and gnashing of teeth by NRx style people and "traditional" fans). I will be amused if that starts happening in manga and anime and we get to see another set of meltdowns by some of these people.

On the one hand there are some legit mangas that are showing a shred of progressivism, though they're mostly targeted at girls. On the other hand, Madoka won the Seiun award.

True-ish in Dragon Ball specifically (we're meant to assume the dog guy is doing an OK job). Hardly true of anime in general, even shonen anime. quote:Also they can pretend the only reason they haven't won yet is because they haven't unleashed their full power, like Goku in literally every fight. It is pretty explicitly about fascism, but it's more of an exploration than a propaganda piece- the government in the setting is explicitly and thoroughly corrupt and wasteful.
