It increases accuracy, and damage in the more shots connect. Even close up and spamming away you will still miss shots.

Game owns and is a steal at $18. I'm having a blast so far and I've only played for like 15 minutes. The music is awesome, combat is fun, and it's simple enough to just dive in and play.

Does it have any stability issues for anybody else? The game locked up and crashed on me when I opened up the map.

Honestly, I bought the cheaper Militia Dreadnaught and I loved the look, but I didn't have much after to supply additional turrets. I scrapped it and went back to the Tennhausen and haven't looked back. If you're good enough I think you can get by with just about any ship given that you upgrade defense and weapons appropriately.

EDIT: I've also recently been addicted to adding music to the custom library, and it's mostly 80's space anime jazz fusion and stuff like that. It's great.

Get a Sturville on the way to a Minotaur. The Sturville is as strong as a mid-tier ship but really really nimble.

Evidently when fully charged the shots aren't just grouped tightly, they're actually guided a bit.

Does anyone actually use missiles? My entire loadout has been beam and pulse weapons. My fights around where I am last a bit and there are a ton of monsters and swarms in the engagements so I feel like I'd run out of ammo half-way through, ordinance crates and all.
The shieldbusters and secondary missiles do poo poo-tons of damage, so when looking to punch above your weight class they're an easy way to get some oomph. And I imagine that when you have one of the big gently caress-off ships they're a good option for some spare turret slots.

I do feel like ordnance crates should only refill half your ammo and drop like 2.5x more often.

I've got 13 hours in the game and I've not seen a special crate. :(

I've hacked a few of these, some give you other stuff like up to date trade pricing information for all stations in the system.

Others do give coordinates, and I've always has a fight and then found cargo containers at the locations marked, and I once found a special cargo container at one which contained a MK2 alien laser turret which shreds everything faster than my broadsides :getin:

So yeah, I loving love the Null Gravity or whatever you call them boosters. The ones with slow acceleration but a top speed multiplier of %250 with the cheapest ones.

Pulled out of warp by pirates? Later shitlords.
Pirate trying to escape from my newbie ship? Nope, I'm going to inevitably catch up with you forever.

I expect it will probably be harder to escape in later sectors where enemies can probably slow me down or something, but for the moment it's just so great.

Also, everybody should follow the advice of the threat and get at LEAST one laser turret ASAP. Worth the investment even just starting out when 11,000 sounds like a lot.

I got good news for you. They can get better, and you can make them even better with a choice of upgrades in the story missions to make them 10% more fuel efficient.

You can still just gently caress off or catch up to someone, the only slow in the game only applies to your warp and sub drive. Boosters give no fucks

The "Push CTRL" screen will show reputation bars as well. No numbers but at least it's something. It also will show your rank in things like the Merchants Guild (I just joined and now it shows my Rank 1 status in the upper left).

I am flying the Sturville, and totally recommend for a sub 1m ship. It is the 700k'ish from the mercenary guild. Its combination of speed and power is very attractive compared to other ships of the same price.

I am thinking I might need to mix some shieldbusters into my turrets. Trying to go 100% laser boat has been tough with a few of the missions. Somehow a mission which tells me to go destroy 5 leviathans is marked as average, and I am having a tough time with their shields.

Let's talk about where you're going.
Some nitpicks I have:

1) The OST gets really, really old after the first 20 minutes of playing the game.
2) Custom music is nice, but the game switches states so rapidly that I only get to hear 30 seconds of a a song. I ended up turning the music off and just playing my own soundtrack from foobar in the background.
3) What the gently caress is up with flying to a space station and having 20 mines hit me all at once that disable my engines? Is there no way to nullify or destroy them?
4) The menus are pretty terrible.
5) Combat doesn't really feel like it has any weight to it. I can't really tell if I'm hitting my target. They'll have 100% health for the first 4 hits and then suddenly their healthbar just disappears and then they explode.
6) Trade interface sucks.
7) It'd be nice if there was an upgrade (long-range sensors maybe?) that gave you a visual on the local map of the relative threat level of an area so you don't accidentally fly into an instant death.

Other than that, I like the game - especially for $18 - and really look forward to patch improvements/Rebel Galaxy 2: Rebel Galaxier.

In combat, every ship (including yours) has shield, hull plating, and hull. Shield and plating are per quadrant. You need to do enough damage to knock out the regenerating shield, then destroy the plating, and then all your damage applies to the hull which is the big health bar (just a percentage for your ship),

I don't remember leach mines, but if they are doing the thing that makes your ship all lightning-crackley, the merchants guild sell an add on that reduces the time that effect sicks. You can shoot mines and missiles if you are cool enough.

Yes. See this point:

quote:

- The general rule when designing the Mk. X equipment upgrades was that each higher level is 1.5x as powerful and 3x as expensive.

So it's better to upgrade 3 things one step than one thing two steps.

Also hire a merc. They're ridiculously cheap for what you get.

I just upgraded from the Tennhausen to the Arcturus and it seems like I take so much more fire and damage that it's sorta a downgrade in how effective I am- I'm guessing that speed and maneuverability factor in to how much of the AI's fire connects with you. I had one of those swarm missions in my log (The ones where you go to a place, kill a couple dudes, and then a huge ring of a billion fighters spawns all around you), and while those were probably the most dangerous mission for me in the Tennhausen, they were totally doable. Even with more than double the number of turrets on the Arcturus it's enough slower that I couldn't get to one side of the ring to put enough distance between myself and most of the fighters/bombers, so I just get surrounded and wrecked. Maybe once I have higher tier defensive gear it'll work out better in the big slow ships (I only have mk4 shields and mk3 hull plating/deflector).

The other thing is the secondary fire ports are much further back on the ship model, so my secondary flak cannons are far worse at tagging missiles that are vectoring in on me. That's something that really doesn't show up on the ship stats pages, too.

Probably going to try and hunt down a Minotaur since it looks like it gets similar firepower but far better speed. I'm sad about the Arcturus not performing super great since I like the looks, and as we all know, the rule of cool is the most important factor for picking a ship. Is the Minotaur a faction ship? Or the Damocles?

The big thing there will be you're going to get pretty wrecked without upgraded defensive equipment on large ships. You deal out a huge amount more dps-wise, but you also get shot a lot more. I didn't upgrade to the Arcturus until I could afford mk 6 shields, mk5 hull/deflector for it, and all mk4 weaponry mostly. Most missions are snooze mode now, though, you kind of just crush things, even when getting swarmed by fighters you can kite effectively by wiping out half the junk that comes flying at you before it gets into a real engagement around you.
