Daily Forecast posted:So a friend is asking me about the OnePlus Two (the phone, not the company) and I remember reading about how terrible it was but I couldn't exactly articulate why. What's wrong with the OPT? The company behind it. I mean, for what it is it's not a terrible phone. It's just the company has done a lot of silly things that most likely is intentional just to get their name out more.

I ordered it the day of the announcement before the links went live on the store page, so I was definitely one of the early orders. Mine still says pending with a delivery date of Nov 2/3.

I've got a problem with one of my phones I haven't seen before. An LG G4 is building up a huge cache and not cleaning up after itself, a few days ago it was over 9 gigs so we cleared it and now it's up above 500 MB and climbing. I'm thinking a factory reset?

Heads up for the Australians, Optus (and Vodafone) are currently doing preorders on the 6p. Should be available within the next week. I wanted a 5x but if I can get the 6p without the huge outright cost, it beats waiting for a 5x. Edit: also on the play store. Premature fucked around with this message at 01:39 on Oct 26, 2015 |

I still don't trust OnePlus to have figured out how to properly cool the Snapdragon 810 chip. Sony engineered special heatpipes for it and still ended up with performance complaints.

For most common materials you'd be trying to start a fire with... nope. It doesn't get hotter than 105? Maybe 110? for the 6p. Which is basically noticeable as "warm", and isn't noteworthy.

I'm annoyed that Telstra got an exclusive on the 5x, it's almost as expensive as the 6p with Optus but on an awful plan.

Yeah, I've toyed with going on a plan, but I lose out on too much money with most of the ones I look at. When I'm on a $40 plan with 3GB data, it's hard to justify these 60/70/80 monthly plans on worse network. Especially now that you tell me Telstra got exlusive 5x plans

Got my 5X on Friday. Here are my impressions, coming from an N5, which is my favorite smartphone to date: Pros + Screen is great. Can't see a pixel, no issues with viewing angles. Also appears to be brighter. I thought the N5 screen was really excellent, but this one is a definite improvement. + Camera is very fast to take a pic, even with HDR. Can also launch with double tap on power button, though I haven't trained myself to do this yet. Only have taken a few, but quality seems good. + Processor is fast. I don't game or anything, and the N5 was fine in that respect. This phone is faster by a bit. No lags or stutters. + Connectivity seems perfect; no issues with cell reception. WiFi is fast, connects to my 5Ghz router without issues. GPS is more accurate than N5 (Google Now knew I was inside a specific restaurant) + Build quality is solid, if uninspiring. No creakiness that the N5 had. + Fingerprint sensor is very fast and accurate. Makes unlocking the phone super easy. I was actually dreading this, but it works great. Neutral Battery life seems fine. Nothing mind-blowing, but of course it's better than my 2 year-old N5. Vibration motor is so strong that I thought there was a touch sound enabled. New placement of power button and volume rocker, which I'm not used to yet. Takes nano SIM. Tried to cut the SIM myself, but it didn't work, and had to stop at a T-Mobile store for a new one. Not a big deal. Phone is slightly larger, though not significantly so. Mainly the phone is taller. USB C means new cables and wall warts. The included cable can't be plugged into a computer, and the wall wart is bizarrely enormous. Fingerprint sensor is the same size and shape as the camera lens, so I'm occasionally trying to repeatedly unlock the phone the wrong way. "Breathe" feature, where phone displays notifications when you pick it up, doesn't work perfectly at the moment. I wouldn't say it's entirely useless, but I'd like it to be more reliable. Back of phone is more slippery than N5. Not getting a case yet, but would have preferred something like the N5 material. Cons - Bezels, IMO, are needlessly large. I understand that this is probably a cost-cutting type of measure, but it is probably my biggest problem with the phone. - No wireless charging. - App issue: SMS backup+ restored my SMS up to June. After wrangling with it a bunch, that seems to be the best I can get. Frankly I only want my texts from September/October restored. Not a huge deal, but a small annoyance.

Bigger + less grippable, ugh. So my 5X rebooted itself twice in the car today while I had it plugged in to my AUX jack. I really had to push the cable in to the headphone jack to get it to click, too. Anyone else had any similar issues? Like, headphone jack causing a short?

If you want to cut down a sim, get it most of the way and do the rest with a nail file or sand paper. Keep in mind nano sims are a bit thinner as well so you might need to sand it down to get it to fit properly.
