Also, though nobody cares, I realized I did my math wrong yesterday on my sperg lord gift post. I recalculated today.

To get from 1 to 40 using only Rank 1 Green Love gifts, with the 30% influence boost perk, it takes 6,080 gifts at 200 credits each, for a total of 1,216,006 credits.

Using Rank 2 Green takes 3,319 gifts at 600 credits each for a total of 1,915,824 credits.

To go from 40 to 50 -

Rank 5 blue gifts - 450 gifts at 5 crystals for a total of 2,250 crystals.

Rank 5 artifact gifts - 226 gifts at 10 crystals for a total of 2,260 crystals.

Rank 6 Legendary gifts - 68 gifts at 30 crystals each for a total of 2,040 crystals.

And for Jawa scrap hoarders, 698 green scrap will get your Akk Dog to 50 influence. :)

Hey Dr. Spreadsheet, have you calculated how much it would take to max out one of the pain in the rear end companions who only has a favorite (or whatever the next rank below "love" is) gift? Because I don't like math but I DO like clicking things for hours.

Everything in this game needs to be Legacy-wide TBH.

It'd be even better if you could have Legacy guild memberships, that would allow all your alts in a guild automatically so there's none of this removing inactive alts thing that needs to happen. I mean there's about to be a fun couple months for games with Fallout 4 and Battlefront so there's gonna be a lot of inactives until the next patch.

Agreed. Leveling Social level to max seems like a literally impossible task. I spend 90% of my game duoing with someone and I just hit social 4 around the time I hit 65.

It should be easier now that all those story FP's are tacticals but, yeah, it takes forever to get rank 10.

It actually goes pretty fast if you do ops at all. I have 4 or 5 at social 10 now and I never did any flashpoints or group content leveling, just ops at end game. If i remembered I used some of those social points booster consumables, but it's not really necessary.

Different guides around the internet rank them differently; swtor doesn't have an inherent official "like > love > favorite" rating system for gifts.

Unofficial guides seemed to have agreed on those words to rank the gifts, but they do not agree on which one is best!

That's a neat idea. Same thing goes for Valor level as well. I think my highest character is around Valor 72ish and it was a pain in the rear end to grind that far. Even worse to grind out at the higher levels past 90. And then if I want to pvp on another character you have to start all over again.

Nah, Valor should stay separate. Otherwise you could make one PVP guy but then unlock the best PVP stuff on everyone.

Social gear is purely cosmetic.

There's no longer a valor requirement on pvp gear. They dropped that with War Hero.

I wish they'd drop the Valor requirement from the old Battlemaster/War Hero gear that can be crafted still. They're just the shells anyways. Some of those sets looked good. I'm glad I bought the schematics when I did before they got rid of them, but if I don't have many characters that can wear them because of the requirements then what's the point.

Ainsley McTree

I'm not sure I understand the point of separate PVP gear at all honestly. It's basically saying "oh, you want to try your hand at this half of the game? Then get ready to grind funlessly for gear before you're ready to get on the level of people who've been playing it for hundreds of hours"

I don't think gear should give an advantage to players in PVP at all, I never liked games that rewarded veteran players with statistical advantages over new players, you should just be able to play, and the only thing that gives you an edge is your skill. Not to hold up Destiny as a model of gaming perfection, but I like the whole "gear doesn't matter" approach that it takes to PVP (with the exception that some weapons are just more suited to the playstyle of PVP, but I mean numerically, high attack & defense stats don't matter).

I understand the idea of rewarding players who put in time over players who don't, but that reward should not be a real and tangible advantage over those other players who are already probably worse than you at the game.

I hope in some patch they remove expertise entirely and just put all players on an equal footing, if only for the orgy of whining that the official forums would become as a result

You can make the playing field as smooth as glass and people are never, ever going to accept "the better man won" philosophy. My team sucks/You're hacking/I had lag/The phase of the moon's alignment with the earth's magnetosphere is discombobulating me...

Also Expertise isn't the problem, the idiotic way Bolster treats PvE gear is. For the record I could care less whether Bioware normalized PvP gear or not, gear has absolutely nothing to do with my win record.

Yep, that's the big thing. I actually liked when Expertise was something to strive for. I leveled my Scoundrel pretty much solely through PvP and earning enough comms to buy an enhancement with expertise on it to give me an edge for playing my rear end off felt like a genuine reward. Now it's all about "how best to game the bolster system to get the proper stats". And I'm not a huge fan of arenas so Ranked PvP doesn't interest me either.

Well, expertise, inexplicable bolster effects--whatever the problem is, I think it should all go away and gear should give no advantage to any player; there should just be like...a set of base stats that are balanced for PVP, and whatever you're wearing, it doesn't matter, your just stats just change to that when you enter a PVP match, whether you're decked out in top-end raid gear, or you're wearing two blasters and literally nothing else. just take stats out of the equation entirely imo.

Then the question becomes "what rewards are you chasing when you play PVP" and that's a good one, but it shouldn't be "gear that makes you better at PVP"

If you have PvP gear in any slot you won't be bolstered at all. So a single mod/enhancement with expertise means that item won't be bolstered.

So if you've got a PvE weapon with a War Hero crystal, you're worse off than with a power crystal.

If you're talking about 204 PvP gear then you're missing 2 pieces somewhere. There are 14 gear slots and each one gives 150 Expertise for a total of 2100.

If you're talking about PvE gear I have no idea. PvP gear is absolutely superior and it only takes about 20ish matches to get a full set and you can freely move comms between chars.

Obviously I can only speak for myself but chasing the win is enough for me. I've got 120K comms just on my main and over 10K each of WZ Medpacs/Adrenals so I'm definitely not playing for gear at this point.

More specifically I enjoy Ranked as a means to directly compare myself to other top PvP'ers. I enjoy regs for the random, human (OMG! why is nobody guarding snow?!?) factor. Regs is herding cats and can be really satisfying when it works out. I actually wouldn't care if Ranked went away if it meant more dev time spent on regs. Due to the small population and a stale meta Ranked is becoming as formulaic as PvE at this point.

Question about the KotFE story: I remember someone commenting as they played through the game having knelt to Valkorion that the dialogue choices forced a narrative that you had knelt for power, which bothered the poster in question because they had knelt on their Smuggler simply on the basis of "want to stay alive", and didn't like the way they had no opportunity to reject Valkorion through dialogue after the fact. Did that hold true for the whole story?

Question about other stuff, what's the deal with all these Bonzi Buddy avatars?

That was me. Having done it on a few characters now the dialogue differences aren't as substantial as I thought they were, but Valkorion definitely seems smugger on a kneeling character than a non-kneeling character. You do get a few dialogue options to say something along the lines of "remember our deal" but alongside them are options to tell him to gently caress off. The instances where I noticed a difference were when talking with Valkorion on the Gravestone at the start of chapter 5 and a dialogue option when talking to him while helping T7 in Chapter 7. I used his power at every opportunity on this character as well but I understand that kneeling to him awards 1 "Valkorion point" and so if you use his power at any point in the story after kneeling he will take control of you to fight Arcann.
