Supposedly, helmets have to be broken in to be more effective as a safety measure. I'd love to see a study of all the college teams that trot out alternate helmets constantly to see if they have more head injuries than the ones who don't.

When this first came about, back in 2013, they also claimed it's somehow not practical for them to just repaint the helmets from one week to the next. It first came up when the Bucs wanted to wear the creamsicles, and has also prevented a few other teams from using some throwbacks (Notably, the Patriots) or some teams from using other alternate helmets (Remember the Packers wearing brown helmets to represent leather ones?). When the Bills & Jets play next Thursday will they be wearing those all-red/all-green uniforms? If so, sick. Use them once and be down with it. Also, just popping in to say that you all have terrible style opinions; the Jags' black/gold fade helmets and Browns' wordmark pants are some of the dopest uniform items in the NFL.
