KaneTW posted:DF right now is total hell though. My first and only runs so far of the new dungeons I was doing more DPS than the entire rest of the parties combined. One had a scholar that never dotted. Both had dark knight tanks that had trouble keeping hate and did around 200 dps a piece. The bard in one group was doing around 400 and the dragoon in another did around 600. I know some of this is the fact that I outgear all of these people, but no one at ilevel 170+ should be doing so little.

I haven't noticed any changes in DF quality with 3.1, everyone was already terrible to begin!

Got boots last night that replace my Gordian. Only a little less det/crit but also has a bunch of acc which lets me drop acc elsewhere and still hit acc caps for A3S. Just like the gloves if it'd had a 4th substat the item would go from "yeah better than eso/gordian in most cases" to "better than gordian/eso always."

That reminds me, I did get an impressively terrible bard in Arboretum last night. They had extended afks twice (eh, RL happens), consistently hosed up the "dodge poo poo" part of the bosses' mechanics that mostly boiled down to "dodge poo poo and kill adds" (and possibly the "kill adds" part too, I wouldn't be surprised if the other DPS did all that alone). But the best part was that they hit every single cooldown they had on cooldown regardless of target or usefulness: battle voice without a song, warden's paean on themselves, random featherfoot and keen flurry, and all of this could easily happen outside of battle between encounters. I was going to ask about that at the end and maybe offer some pointers like "use your cooldowns when they'll actually do something useful", but they peaced out as soon as the exit showed up. I'm still uncertain whether they were an exceptionally poor bot or an exceptionally unskilled player. It's really pretty rare that I can honestly say I've had bots as better party members.

Given the choice between gearing up my dust-collecting alt jobs in 190 gear from Alex normal vs. 185 gear from the new dungeons, I went with the latter: - Far less risk of untimely death - Fewer people to lot against - Fewer lots to win for a single item - Most importantly, I love the look of the dungeon gear, while Alex gear gets a resounding meh from me That last point applies inversely to motivating me to run Void Ark. That stuff falls into the "immediately glamour over" pile, I'm not any bigger a fan of it live than I was in the preview pictures.

As the Goon Diadem Linkshell is rapidly approaching member capacity within less than a week, feel free to idle in this Discord chat where I will be announcing any organized Diadem NM/HM runs for whatever purpose. The VOIP is just a bonus I guess if you really care.

He cast fire until he ran out of mp, then put away his weapon and waited for his mp to regenerate. I looked him up later and he turned out to be from a roleplaying FC on Balmung.

Soundtrack releases for this game are handled in a really silly way. You won't see anything physical for a while, but if you want to pay $1.29 per track there's about 10 tracks from HW released on iTunes. For XIV music it's either their overpriced $50 blu-ray OSTs or iTunes. The physical OST containing HW tracks won't be out for a while yet probably.

I sent one of the pbc airships to collect a material we're running low on because of some house thing people want. Not that we can't probably just buy it but I think considering how often they're used we can have 3 ships ready all the time and still farm things.

Most RPers that I've run across, have as much competence (or lack thereof) as your average random player when they're actually doing content. (Not all of them RP 24/7.) In particular, they don't let their RP gimmick interfere with instanced dungeon runs. Especially not those with strangers. What I'd want to know is whether he was doing this because he was taking "I'm RPing as a fire mage" (which I assume would be the excuse) to a ridiculous extreme even though he mechanically knew better, or if he was just that clueless that he didn't know the most basic of his job mechanics at max level.

If we still need to send them on regular ventures it might behoove us to work out a schedule where we all take turns being the Diadem Bitch FC so the others can airship venture, but I say this with the caveat that Kara is probably the one to coordinate with this on from TPT.

Mordiceius posted:If there is one thing to get frustrated about in this patch, it's that pretty much all the new crafting recipes are locked behind specialties. Super cool. I just hope they don't make it so people have to get their new pre-relic weapons crafted (like they had to in 2.0) and then lock those recipes behind the specialist system.

Lumis posted:I just hope they don't make it so people have to get their new pre-relic weapons crafted (like they had to in 2.0) and then lock those recipes behind the specialist system. I'd venture to guess that this could be guaranteed. I would have liked specialisms more of it was encouraged but not required. If it was "if you're a specialist, all items for that craft are 10-20% easier to make" it would be awesome. It would be easier for people to make HQ items with NQ mats without having to delve deep into becoming a crafting sperg and it would save money. The beauty of FF14 is being able to do everything on one character. Now you can't.

# ? Nov 13, 2015 20:44 |

You can still do everything on one character because specialization can be swapped out for others. It just takes 480 red scripts.

Crafting is kind of a goofy thing anyway though, if you let everyone do everything then a few dedicated people control the market and there's little incentive for casual crafting. At least with specialization you end up with multiple areas where those few dedicated people congregate, lowering the bar a little bit, though what really helps is stuff like FC airships requiring an ungodly amount of midend materials so that there's a market for goddamned near everything, or glamor crystals which are a billion common consumables that will never see the end of demand. I don't do endgame crafting though so my perspective is limited, but from down here, the more likely I can find a profitable niche or general usefulness without being bleeding edge, the more likely I'll end up engaging with it.
