I think the main reason they seem so unprepared is because all of this is taking place under the shadow of yesterday's attacks. It colored all of the topics and now they're scared shitless about the possibility a Paris/terrorism related gaffe.

It won't matter so much how the candidates are doing in the back-and-forth, because nobody's watching it. The clips coming out of this will be much more important. So far, I think O'Malley is winning those.
