free community college is fine because no one gives a poo poo about it and it's like $3000 a year. if someone drops out who cares and otherwise if they don't they'll go on to a real college.

My Imaginary GF posted:

Education is not the cure-all for poverty. You cannot tackle poverty without discussing the issue of race, yet that's exactly what Sanders hopes to do.

it's not just education. a similar or slightly higher minimum wage with better social programs is better than more money straight up. a single payer healthcare system alone saves people a lot of money each year compared to what even the shittiest obamacare plans can cost.

If you're truly poor and deserve a spot in college, you're able to get one without having to pay one dime.

How much is 4 years of college at Harvard for someone who's family makes 150% the poverty level?

its free

There was a kid in Memphis who was accepted to every single Ivy college with full ride scholarships but decided to go to a state school because his parents couldn't afford to help him with the high living expenses that come with going to ivy leagues. College isn't just tuition.

Minimum wage increases are great, for those who have jobs.

What % of black males aged 16 to 30 are employed?

Sounds like someone too lazy to have saved enough during highschool to afford the mandatory dorm period.

Full ride often includes housing though?

Wanting to be a car mechanic also isn't, though.

I'd rather people hold Sanders to not loving over manual labor professionals by ensuring we have some kinda divided 'silly poor don't you know real education isn't for you, now clean my toilet' thing called 'progressive' than piss fight about exactly how many rich kids have lovely parents.

You can be a car mechanic with a college degree. Telling poor people to get a degree is about as condescending as telling poor people to accept free money because it makes their lives better.

Sometimes but not always

Also full rides don't adjust for rising costs either and are set at your first year, meaning by your fourth year you could be having to pay out the difference which is too much

mandating quality online options from at least the public universities should be a necessity for if people can't afford to/don't want to relocate.

Right but someone who wants to be a car mechanic should have the opportunity to get their education in car repair and also fuckin take a French lit class if they want to, which is why most people supporting education reform want an expansion of the university system to include vocational skills so hey maybe you can major in car repair and do some other poo poo if you want instead of making it so you have to pick between the two.

Yeah after reading this thread I'm kind of fine with them making vocational classes be college degrees if it lets people do more stuff

Just require on the job training too paid for by the employers after the general degree.

These are also offered in community colleges, though. I don't see how any of this wouldn't be covered.

I mean, your optics would be fine if he was talking about "go to college free but STEM only", but he didn't say that.

Tatum Girlparts is being intentionally misleading about Bernie's stance for support of a minimum wage increase. He said that people need money to pay for more goods and services because that's what generates demand for jobs. It was an employment issue to begin with. Acting as if poor people don't care about the availability of jobs, is the most ludicrous concern trolling I've ever seen.
