Why? They could verify the key with just a hash and a partial license key, which is what they appear to be doing. Presumably this is so all your corporate users don't download a key recovery program, grab the corporate license key, and share it with all their friends.

There are 2 different types of volume license key. I thought that you could still read a MAK key .out of the registry? It's just a normal key? Ive always used the 'magicaljellybean key finder' when I've needed to grab one

If your machine has been. Volume activated using a corporate KMS server or active directory then the key you read out won't help you with activation for a standalone machine.

magical jelly bean keyfind finds "BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB-BBBBB". Other, similar products have managed to find the last 5 digits but not the whole key.

That is the AP I have. It's not the one that has been discussed earlier in this months thread though. It's only bgn and has a 100mbit wired link not gigabit.

It is an awesome AP (mine covers my whole house and garden) but you will also need to buy a 24v Poe adaptor for it and to configure it you need to install the unifi controller app on your pc (it doesn't have an inbuilt web server). The app doesn't need to stay running forever but you will need to reopen it if you ever have a long power cut as the ap may loose its config.

Happiness is a warm
Turbo Plasma Rifle

After a concert tonight, I got sick and tired of waiting for the bus for ~30 minutes while standing in crappy slush weather, so I decided to try out this newfangled DriveNow on-the-spot minute-by-minute electric car (they're all BMW i3s) rental thing. The handy-dandy app told me that there was a car less than 5 minutes away by foot, so off I went. Sure enough, the car was there and I unlocked it with my RFID card that I also use for public transport. Apparently you can unlock/lock the cars using the app, too.

When you start up the car, there's a short survey you have to complete using the iDrive system. Questions about how clean the car is inside, if there are any dents or scratches, the usual rental car stuff. And then you just drive, and holy poo poo the i3 is a nice car to drive. I've driven other electric cars (no Tesla yet, unfortunately) and liked them, but this is a much higher class car. And there is a hell of a lot more acceleration on tap than you'd expect, at least at the city speeds the car is meant for. Well done, BMW :)

It also seemed to handle just fine in the snow and slush we're getting right now. A bit slippy if you mash it, but those super skinny 155-width tires seem to cut through it pretty well. And of course there's traction control too.

I can only think of two downsides. One is that there is no ice scraper or anything to handle snow and ice on the car, and nothing to wipe off the insides of the windows.

The other is that it cost me ~$13 to go 7.5km, compared to $1.70 if I had taken the bus. It's ~$0.55/minute while driving, half that while parked. Cheaper than a taxi, though.

On the other hand, I got to drive home in a warm, comfortable car instead of having to wait even longer for that drat bus.

Go buy a UniFi UAP-AC-Lite or UAP-AC-Pro (if you can find somewhere that has one in stock)

This is the pro unit: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1184036-REG/ubiquiti_networks_uap_ac_pro_unifi_ap.html
this is the Lite: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1184038-REG/ubiquiti_networks_uap_ac_lite_unifi_ap_ac.html

You shouldn't be spending over ~$150 on the Pro or $80ish on the Lite. RRPs are $149 and $79 respectively.
Stock is a bit short since they're so new, so a lot of places are marking them up (especially Amazon sellers). They come with the PoE injector, are simultaneous dual band and 802.11ac/b/g/n.

I was actually really impressed by the stock firmware on my C5.

It's clunky and not very polished, but it mostly makes up for that in functionality (it's also worlds better than most D-Link firmware, though that's not saying much). And like laf said, you never have to touch it once it's set up, it just works. It's a lot more reliable than the Netgear WNR3500L it replaced (and a fuckton faster).

If you want clunky, I have an ancient Netgear router of some sort somewhere that only has a telnet interface. It's about the size of a VCR, and heavier. (now I'm tempted to go root around in the garage to try and find the drat thing, even though it only supports 10/100 on the switch and a 10mbit uplink)
