The ape-armed, short legged Italian driving posture is so weird, but I believe that it works for some stereotypical Italian body shape. The seats have decent side bolstering. They hug my love handles pretty well and remind me to lose some weight. If I remember right, the seating position in older Italian cars is because the driving style in Italy was to use shuffle steering from near the bottom of the steering wheel. Hands at 4 and 8, feeding the wheel through the hands. Preeeeetty sure I read that in a car mag article way back when, where the journalist was sitting in the car with an old Italian race driver who maddly shuffled the wheel back and forth, never going above 9 and 3.

No such thing as a free lunch, if you want social services and poo poo, someone's gotta pay for em... bend over. They usually end up getting 50-75 bucks out of me for each vehicle I own even though the excise tax is like 25-35, because I'm awful at adulting and don't remember to pay up until they've sent me a warning, a warrant to collect my taxes, and then added a couple penalties to it. Oh well, my fault

Sorta, there's a flat tax rate of 2.5% on the valuation of the car, but the valuation changes every year until 5 years past the date of manufacture. I also forget if they prorate the valuation based on how many months of the year you own the car or not, but Kimbo is only paying .8% rate tax on 1200, so I'm pretty sure everyone in MA just paid for their 348s with 10% cash and 90% bricks of cocaine. some texas redneck posted:I didn't want to be the one to say "man Snoop sure has changed a bit". Went on one last battery topping drive before Thanksgiving break. This is the car that's easiest to jump into driving, no matter how tired or busy I am. Locals will know what I'm talking about : Going through those roundabouts by the Whole Foods near Dilboy Stadium -- I have no idea why people do it, but they always take right of way entering the roundabout. Every entrance has a yield sign on it, but for whatever reason, that's somehow become the local convention for just these two roundabouts. Every other one nearby, people respect the rules. Mass roundabout and rotary awareness is pretty good, so I dunno what gives. Anyways, I'm in the roundabout trying to line up my exit, and this S600 is barreling right at the entrance. I cover the brakes and wait for him to enter, which he does, but he decides at the last second to slowdown, halfway into the roundabout. Then we stare at each other side by side, him looking neither apologetic nor angry. I didn't deploy the super Italian sounding horn. If we had both proceeded along, I would have been T-boned. Given the expense to repair, I'm not sure either car would have survived. e: I also dodged an SUV parked on the side of the road and bottomed out the front left suspension. It sounded pretty bad :/. Someone moved into the parking spot next to me, so now I have to be a bit more delicate in backing the car in. This is a good size illustration: The cars are aligned bumper to bumper in the front. Back, the Corolla is half a foot further back. The couple of times I've parallel parked the 348 on the street, it looks really tiny. kimbo305 fucked around with this message at 07:53 on Nov 26, 2015 |

I saw a street parked new revision GTR, and I genuinely felt envious that my car didn't stack up bench-racing-wise. It's that classic geeky Top Trumps mentality, I guess. I've driven a few cars with spherical shift knobs. Most are cue-ball or slighty smaller, which means I can just close my fingers around to the shift level. The 348's knob is much smaller, the size of a modern ping pong ball. It lends a more delicate, sophisticated feel. A small but real factor to the overall experience. The shifter is really tall, but I still very rarely shift it underhanded, like holding a brandy snifter, which I would do for other ball shift knobs. Anyways, preview of coming attractions:

A while back, I looked around at aftermarket exhausts. There was one exhaust that, from its promotional video, sounded so good, I couldn't think about anything else. It seemed to be a very niche product, but I was sold. This is not as big as it might look. It's maybe just over 2 ft wide bracket to bracket. Without a lift or 4 jackstands, I was pretty chary about DIYing, even though in the scheme of things, this is one of the easiest exhaust swaps you could have. I left it to the shop, who also fixed up the broken heatshield. The stock exhaust is 2 muffler chambers. Here's the bottom one: Note how the cat is angled upward. The cats plumb into the upper muffler chamber: which in turn plumbs to the lower exhaust via two 3" tubes, which are sealed with some sort of composite gasket. The two pieces of the heat shield: The shop drilled out the rivets, fiberglass patched the underside, re-riveted, and resprayed everything. The result is something that looks passably factory: The Rarefab exhaust in place, with the tips clamped on: As you can see, the airflow is roughly the same as the stock exhausts. The toothed plastic line is from the shop's investigation into some PO aftermarket antenna treachery. The shop buttoned up and put the heatshield back on. Ok, the important part, the sound. This is keyed right to the flyby pulls: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tB5gWbWs7VE&t=191s Apologies for aggressive driving on the street, etc. The earlier half of the video is some interior tunnel blasting on the action cam (with the windows up but the microphone already clipping badly) and a really tight parallel park. After the flybys, we drove around some more with the windows down, and oh man, it went from great to amazing. The howl the motor has at 3k and 6k is otherworldly. This changes the whole driving experience, because you become obsessed with trying to keep the car just at 3k. Driving the car with the windows up is now completely pointless. Overall, the car sounds like it should have all along -- rumbly and bassy on the low end, with fascinating harmonics in the middle, and the same scream at the top end. I kept wondering as I drove it, why would Ferrari bottle this up from the factory?

Wow, great upgrade, also puzzling to me why Ferrari would try to restrict it. That Ferrari sound is what most people want. Also noticed in the video that the wheel spacers made a big difference. The car looks great, wouldn't change a thing.
