There's been a lot of good poo poo this year, most of which has been mentioned. The only album I haven't seen anyone list yet is Arcturus' new record 'Arcturian'. I actually love it, it reminds me (a little bit) of The Sham Mirrors which is one of my favourites. Here's one of the crazier tracks:

Arcturian's a pretty cool album, but I've been saying for a few years that Vulture Industries is doing a better Arcturus than Arcturus these days

Since no else responded - yeah it's amazing, very much in the same vein as the last couple but with more of the catchiness and crunchiness of their second self titled.

Eeeee, Skull Fist! Used to listen to them a lot when I started getting into post-2000 speed/thrash/heavy metal bands. I remember them kicking some serious rear end.

As for recommendations off the top of my head: Anvil, Cellador, Primal Fear, and Agent Steel.

Yeah Jens Carlsson and Persuader own. This post also made me realize that they released an album last year that I had yet to check out.

My AOTY is def Exercises in futility by Mgla. I realize that most people won't like that album, but I fall into a very slim margin of people for whom "Summoning with more hardcore influenced riffs" is extremely my poo poo. Second place is a tie between Black Fast -- Terms of Surrender and Tribulation - The Children of the Night, because I like dumb goofy things (my favorite metal bands right now are Dissection, Summoning and Warlord).

I've already seen them numerous times and I refuse to give Kerry King Inc. any more of my money, but I remember a while ago it was reported that Slayer's tours were hemorrhaging money left and right because they have saturated the live market more than almost all other big metal bands. They are no longer a band that is a rarity to see and it's definitely beginning to show in poor attendance all around.

With Slayer, the live shows are mostly augmented by the energy of the people. The rabid enthusiasm of the crowd makes the shows very intense.

I really just don't get Mgla I mean, objectively I can listen to it and think "yeah, it's pretty good" but after about 30 seconds I get bored. It's like a UtA scenario where by all accounts I should like the band but I just can't. They're good, I know, but I just don't like listening to them. Different people like different things I guess.

For me AOTY is absolutely:

Obsequiae - Aria of Vernal Tombs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaFIDnsWCQQ

Close runner-ups:

Mesarthim - Isolate https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTjE9IB0F4g

Havukruunu - Havulinnaan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEYAv13D9s8

I really want to like Enslaved, I really do. I listened to Vikingligr Veldi and loved it. Then I listened to the 2015 album and realized why they were on the same bill as Native loving Construct. It's so radically different that I can't get past that.
