That might work, although I kinda feel like image stabilization might be useful since I don't know whether the camera is gonna wiggle around as I'm writing stuff down or other people in class are getting up and moving around.

I also tend to sit toward the front of the room, usually in the front row if I can manage it, so I need something that can record everything from there. And I need a way to view what the camera is recording, so I can adjust it as needed, although that doesn't have to be attached to the camera itself; if I have to hook it up to my iPad to do that, then that's fine too.

EDIT: Also I'd kinda like to get an idea or two on this today, what with it being Black Friday and stuff like this being on sale and all. :shobon:

I attached it to a DJI Phantom II drone which vibrates like a fucker and it did fine, I can send a quick exmaple if needed.
It comes with a velcro strap and Mount, it doesnt budge. Paying anything over 100$ for your needs is just not necessary (unless you just want to join the gopro club, it happens alot).

I own this one too and it also does the job, 1080p 30fps or 720 at 60 even can clip it to stuff and angle the lens down 30 degrees

Have you talked to any of your instructors about actually being video recorded? I can't imagine a lot of people are going to agree with actually being recorded. One thing on a tape recorder, another thing with a video camera setup you're thinking of.

I have thought about this, although from what I've seen, most instructors at my institution either encourage or don't seem to care about that kind of thing. In my case, I have a disability accommodation thing for ADHD that allows me a designated note-taker in a class if I ever need it, but the note-takers are always other students, who may or may not take very good notes. I had a class last year where nobody really took notes at all, because the instructor didn't actually teach us any material and there was nothing to take notes for.

This is basically a designated note-taker in camera form. As long as I make it clear that nobody except me is allowed to see my recordings (with the possible exception of other students with my accommodation, if the instructor requests it), then I should be okay.

Part of the reason I brought up GoPro is because I figured it would be better to have something small and discrete. Most classrooms aren't really designed to have much room for setting up stuff like this.

As a former lecturer: Nope. No loving way. Not happy. I would direct you to disability services and they will find you a note taker. Most lecture theaters at my university were equipped with cameras so the lecturer can record and distribute to students who need it - that's at lecturers discretion and making it generally available always results in 60% of the class not turning up, so most lecturers hate recordings even when they pretend they don't. Making it available only to students who need it was possible with our set-up and was viewed more favorably. It also means the equipment might already be in place if you ask nicely, so you don't need to spend any money.

It's an individual thing, but personally I would only let students video my lectures if they literally had no arms (I had one or two thalidomide students over the years) and disability services couldn't find a note taker, and I was in one of the 10% of lecture theaters that hadn't been refurbished with recording.

I didn't want students skipping lectures because there's a video of it is being passed around on the college network, which is exactly what you're proposing to do. And I don't want to be on YouTube, but that's a personal preference.

If you go ahead, "small and discrete" when referring to video cameras is what you use to attach to your shoe to get up-skirt shots or plant in the womens bathroom, and you're regarded with about as much trust as someone who does that. If you do have a camera, ask the lecturer first, then be very obvious with it and always sit front row somewhere easily seen. You may be asked to get permission from everyone else in the lecture theater, because they may not want to be recorded either. With audio only devices, same deal with asking the lecturer, but you probably don't need to ask everyone else in the room (also, these existed in every lecture theater, so you can probably save the money)

Lastly, if you need a video recording, then your note taking skills suck. That's a much more important thing to learn if you want to function as a professional - you won't have video cameras to rely on in a meeting when you graduate.

TL;DR It's the 21st Century and the lecture theater probably already has professional gear fitted. Don't waste your money.

Disability services at my school doesn't do this. It's a big school and they just don't have the staff or the resources to do that.

At my school, the equipment isn't in place in a lot of places, and in the ones where it is it usually isn't turned on, or is all the way in the back of the room. In those rooms the video and audio quality aren't particularly great.

Captain Postal posted:

No, that's not what I'm proposing to do. I never proposed to do that. You're just putting words in my mouth here. I have more sense than that.

I have a loving learning disability. The last thing I need to hear from you is how I can't function as a professional. My note taking skills are actually fine; I'd just like something to help me put them in context with what the instructor is saying.

Anyone know of any good lip balms? I have a lovely little Eos ball but it's so weak in power that unless I'm constantly slathering it all over my lips they still dry out. Then I bite the poo poo out of them and end up tearing my lips open. I used to have this gross blue chapstick that'd melt everything off and keep my lips super smooth if I applied it once or twice a day but that got lost somewhere.

If you've got money to burn and a sympathetic dermatologist, look into tacrolimus ointment (brand name is Protopic). I use that to heal the skin around my lips when shaving irritates them. It's CAD$80/ 50mL tube, though. You only use a tiny amount when applying, so it can last a long time.

Cortisone can thin skin if used over a long period of time, but tacrolimus used as an ointment doesn't have the same effect. It does heat up and get mildly uncomfortable, so try using it before bed.

Otherwise, I just dab on some water, then cover my lips in petroleum jelly. YMMV.

For something keychain sized I'd take a gander at:

-Fenix EO5 - 1x AAA
-FiveSeven Atom A0 - 1x AAA
-Streamlight Nano - 4x LR41

If you don't care it being that small, there are a lot of options in the single AAA and AA powered flashlights. I'd suggest going over to candlepowerforums.com and looking for suggestions there.
