A Trump or Cruz nominee makes it very clear to the business wing that they are not going to get an electable candidate for the White House any time soon. 2012 gave us Romney as the nominee. Things got a little bit nuts, but in the end, the GOP were able to push all the crazy back in the box before the general election. If the party is not able to do that anymore, I don't see why a many of the single issue donors would stick around and enable an even crazier field next time around.

We live in a country where a police officer could raise a million dollars in a day for executing an unarmed black kids, the old conventional wisdom about donor bases and fundraising are obsolete.
