The business wing always got their candidate every presidential election. If trump wins this time around they will not have gotten that. They will move to the Democrat Party or split off. It's that simple.

It's not been the loving crazies that have been in danger of leaving if they didn't get their way. It's been the actual people with money. This is very loving simple. So far they have always gotten their way. If thy don't get their way this time and lose for a third time in the row it's game over. Very loving simple.

Because when you keep saying something is going to happen and it doesn't, you lose credibility.

The fact that the presicency is the only office that matters to Democrats is a big reason why the D's have been utterly destroyed at every other level. There is a major party in crisis in America and it ain't the Republicans.

And no, the party that controls the supreme court, house, senate, 70% of state governments is not going to go into crisis mode. And if they lose the presidency their share in government will only grow more in 2018.

There are absolutely ideological differences - substantive ones around immigration in particular, and more identity politics-based ones around abortion. There's also a clear populist tone in Trump's approach that certainly isn't what any upper-cruster GOP type wants to hear.

No it doesn't. loving Ron Paul has been saying the US Economy is going to collapse since 1985 and when it finally did collapse he rode that wave to significant grassroot support.

Saying something will eventually happen is not crazy. No one has ever said that it will happen immediately just that it will happen given certain circumstances and the circumstances have never looked clearer until now. We did not have any crazy Republican politicians leading the presidential polls before today. They were all safe establishment picks.

We were inching down that path before Trump, but he came along and skipped to the end. The establishment's ability to retain some semblance control of the party kept all sides together, but if Trump or Cruz win, and the party goes off the rails, the business wing will step back.

I don't think its the Tea Party who will go away. The business guys will just cut back on their funding, or try to turn the Democrats into the Republican party they were hoping to create. A Trump or Cruz nominee makes it very clear to the business wing that they are not going to get an electable candidate for the White House any time soon.

2012 gave us Romney as the nominee. Things got a little bit nuts, but in the end, the GOP were able to push all the crazy back in the box before the general election. If the party is not able to do that anymore, I don't see why a many of the single issue donors would stick around and enable an even crazier field next time around.

SuperPACs and billionaire donors sponsoring vanity candidates have seriously blunted the donor base that traditionally influences primaries.

We live in a country where a police officer could raise a million dollars in a day for executing an unarmed black kids, the old conventional wisdom about donor bases and fundraising are obsolete.
