Mostly traps are worthless although they can be used pretty safely once you realize you can wire a terminal temporarily up to the triggers and set them to only go off on enemies, thus there's no reason not to set up a mad-max style pair of flamethrower traps either side of your gate Also maybe your settles repair stuff over time I think?? So you don't have to spend any active resources fixing up your teslas after their wad is blown. although I dunno if they reset the tripwire. My main use for traps and tripwires and all those sensor-shits is setting up a sensor so that when enemies actually get into the main part of my base it sets off a siren, sirens attract your settles around themselves even during combat. If there was some kind of security camera I'd use them to keep my settlers INSIDE the walls while my turrets sort them out but alas they're mostly just useful for making sure your invincible pipegun army is doing their loving job of defending their own houses. If you go to make something you will still have them, and after awhile they will show up. There's no difference between storing something in your workshop and scrapping it. mod idea: Eyebots that can hang around your base and play holotapes, random eyebots in the wilderness with holotapes that play music or advertising or whatever, to use them you have terminals plugged into a 'eyebot charger' put the holotape in the terminal and set the conditions of play, like when combat breaks out or whatever. That way when the seinfeld theme starts to play you know your eyebots have spotted the enemy! I dunno I just like the idea of setting up eyebots and loudspeakers with holo-tapes playing christmas music or w/e

So I'm wandering around, on my way to Jamaica Plain to set up a settlement for Preston. Came across a suit of X-01 armor! Except it has no left arm or left leg. Is there any way to get power armor components anywhere or do I need to keep looking until I find another suit with the components I'm missing?

I just console in parts I need if I'm past the point where they spawn. I need one more t51 set and I doubt I'll find one since I'm getting x01 now. Other than that, just atom cats for anything besides t60. The brotherhood dumps a ton of t60 on you.

What do extra playthroughs bring that simply levelling can't do? There's zero roleplaying, you can game the factions to the very end ... I have zero impulse to play through some of the quests again because they end in much the same way. I don't get it.

So if you hit up Goodneighbor before Diamond City (or probably just before learning about Nick's agency) you can go to the Memory Den and Irma will talk to you about the loungers and offer a trial run. You relive the whole abduction/spousal murder scene. Apparently you can only do this if you hit up Goodneighbor BEFORE Diamond City. So yeah. Not entirely sure it's worth it, but it's easy XP.

I enjoy the nuts and bolts of the gunplay and the exploration enough to keep going for a long time. It's not for everyone, though.

I love the juxtaposition between Fallout 3 and 4. The entire plot of FO3 was about getting clean water, while in FO4 you can just set up some wells and purifiers and have thousands of gallons of clean water across the Commonwealth super easily. Even some dopey kid in Diamond City was smart enough to just make a purifier in some little lake.

Did the Billy Ghoul quest. gently caress that little rear end in a top hat for wanting me to go through the deathtrap that is Quincy. Deathclaws on the waterfront, raiders and Gunners duking it out through the center, and quarry raiders plus supermutants if I try to go around southwest. Stupid little ghoul. But to be positive, I've found myself really enjoying the companions in this game, far more than the main quest. Just chilling with Hancock or Danse is great because they actually have some depth to them, even if Danse can get a little space cadet at times.

Some of the quests break and autocomplete after you do the main story quest, like Covenant. You can also only go through the quest with one companion and there's a lot of extras or alternative outcomes. Plus you can only really specialize in one or two weapons and play styles per playthrough. Not enough to go through a few more times though unless you're doing a good/evil one.

Nick Valentine is my favorite by far and I wish there were more of the agency quests. I know he's cliche as all hell, but I'm a sucker and I still love it. The easter egg in the police department for his backstory was also a treat.

It was influenced by Fallout and later vice versa, though it's a comparatively more "hardcore" survival experience. The rad storms in Fallout 4 seem like they were inspired by the emissions in in STALKER. Though here they are more just for atmosphere as opposed to something that will murder you if you try to wander around during it. I never actually got a good chance to look around during an emission because I was always huddling in a random shed watching a drunk Russian plunk away on his guitar.

I dumped Valentine as soon as I could get his perk because he was the worst companion for wandering in front of me randomly for no reason. He loved running around me to get to a new room first so he could tell me that he hoped he wasn't expected to find anything there or whatever his flavor chatter was. That plus not being able to put armor on him.
