He got that out of the way early, pretty golden after that. He hits on Lisa Ann, but is funny and not creepy like Sherrod. Race Wars is like a boat where Sherrod is furiously bailing water into the boat while everyone else is trying to row towards a shore marked with 'good and entertaining podcast'. Every other comedian guest is a stark reminder of how bad Sherrod is, and how he's riding the Chris-Rock-Is-My-Cousin train until the wheels fall off. It's almost like an elaborate troll by Kurt. And then Lisa Ann has to remind everyone she gets plowed on film almost as often as Sherrod reminds everyone he's black. The conspiracy guy was hilarious because almost all of his bullshit is disproven by a high school level understanding of physics. Like whenever he starts a sentence with "I'M NO EXPERT ______-OLOGIST, BUT" you can pretty much ignore everything afterwards. Like he doesn't understand that rockets need a certain amount of horizontal velocity to stay in orbit, he thinks that because they turn horizontal after liftoff that's proof that the earth is flat. As if you just fly straight up from Cape Canaveral and float in space indefinitely. I'm sure there's physics goons that know better than me, obviously. It's good radio because Kurt just keeps egging him on and never contradicts him, then the big reveal is the that the dude is like a fundamentalist christian, and all of these conspiracies exist as like... proof of god's existence or something. It's bananas, I thought it was a wacky morning zoo character.

I've been jumping in and out of listening to the Nerdist podcast, and I get that Hardwick is a recovering alcoholic, but does he have to act like any mention of alcohol is like a five year old being taunted with cooties, and have to run in the opposite direction shrieking? I was listening to the recent one with George Carlin's kid and she made an offhand joke about tequila shots, and Hardwick... Well, see aforementioned. He's gotten way better at interviews since I stopped listening back in 2011, though. That's for sure.

There was an episode a few years ago (I haven't listened recently) where he was talking to Jonah Ray weirdly seriously about how he might have a drinking problem and I just remember being extraordinarily uncomfortable. He mentions it every time there's a story or game about alcohol on @Midnight, too.

Maybe for people who had serious physical and psychological dependence on alcohol, it's difficult to talk in a "normal" way about the thing that almost destroyed their lives.

Hardwick is an alcoholic in a way that 95% of the people I knew growing up were alcoholics. He wasn't going on week long benders and banging 47 year old bar maids for a bottle and he didn't have to spend 8 stints in rehab to get clean. He was a chubby nerd who drank a bit too much and quit pretty easily one day once he realized it wasn't for him.

Ya, it only ruined a long term dating relationship and put his career on hold for nearly a decade but it's not like he needed a new liver or anything. What a pussy. I recall Jonah talking about getting up, drinking more and even taking beverages with him in the shower. He might not have gone off the deep-end but Chris may have helped a tiny bit.

Oh yeah he was definitely on point in being concerned, but it was not something he should have said publicly. Jonah was really obviously uncomfortable. On the podcast I don't really mind preachiness (although I haven't listened for a while) it's just on the show where there's on 22 minutes and he's taking one of those to preface jokes about drinking with "I don't drink anymore". Every time. If the subject makes you uncomfortable, don't do things about drinking. I like him a lot but everything he does seems a little annoying and that's why it probably comes off more grating than when Jimmy Pardo or Marc Maron does it. Also distancing myself from "he's not a real alcoholic" dude because wtf.

He's from UCB and has a pretty famous temper and there are some horror stories floating around about him. The one I like most was he sent an angry email to the author of a "bad" Amazon review for his book. It only gave it 3 stars.
