Because if you loving kill someone you should be punished for loving killing someone. That person is dead. They don't exist anymore. And you (living Nevvy Z's fantasy world) get to run around on probation because well shucks you had a bad roll of the dice but that's okay. When you kill someone (even through "bad luck") you should face extra punishment because human life has value. lol how desensitized to shootings and brutality have we become that this is what we're moaning about when just 1 page prior there was a literal police execution video and some nutjob just ran over a bunch of people on the LV strip with her 3 year old in the car That kid will never learn his lesson and his victims will never get to feel like their pain isn't being swept under a rug. Jesus loving Christ did I read a real life post of someone who drunk drives and thinks it's ok because they go slow? What the gently caress? Take a God drat cab or an Uber or walk or call a friend. Or be a functional adult and find a designated driver or just stay the hell home. I shouldn't read this thread before bed. Also some drunk lady just hit like 40 people. Bet she thought she could just drive slow and play it cool.

Controlling machines to deliver objects at high speed where the average judgement of the general populace is what we're counting on for people to not die is unnatural and the result of technology availability out pacing societal development and common sense. I thought that the affluenza defense didn't really play into his punishment and the judge in his case had given similar leniency before but the kid in this situation was rich enough to be able to afford the treatment where others couldn't which is different problem. Making the argument that your client is a sociopath that doesn't understand the difference between right and wrong should result in that person not being allowed outside of an institution for a long enough time that he's going to be taught not going to kill anyone though. Participation in the capitalist system at all implies being a willing participant in labor abuses, comrade. The only moral solution is drunk driving, which increases the chance of killing a fellow consumer and thus reducing the burden on the third-world proletariat.

My 23 year old family member died when a drunk driver drove the wrong way down a highway at 90 mph. The drunk driver was coming home from a casino. In my opinion the punishment for excessive drunk driving incidents (wrong way highway driving) is way too light. There are plentiful examples of repeat offenders doing it over and over. Here's an example of a wrong way drunk driver killing someone after driving 3 minutes the wrong way alongside the cop (glancing at the cop along the way). He got a life sentence reduced to 5 years because he behaved well for the first 9 months in prison.

I know in retrospect that MADD's work was mostly just on an emotional level and not particularly fact based but it sure did its work on me as a kid and now deep inside I think of drunk drivers as ridiculous ultra-scum regardless of their situation.

To go back; in my state there you basically get one dui "for free"* which I think is an ok system. If you commit a separate crime tho during that first dui -like manslaughter - you are rightly hosed. * not really but in the larger scheme the penalties are nominal.
