Meh, season two is so so, but you can definitely see a clear decline as it goes, and the writers just kinda stop caring. The story loses itself more and more as it goes. Season three is hot garbage though.

Heroes, from what I recall of it, started by bringing some of the worst storytelling tropes from comic books to serial television, but managed to tell some interesting stories in spite of that. Past the first season, though, the bullshit multiplies while the stories/characters worth paying attention to either get ignored or get insultingly ridiculous. (This went double for woman characters. God, those were embarrassing to watch.) ...which leads me to wonder why NBC bothered to revive it. Does that count as dumb marketing? It ended dumb, but they're still trying to market it, last I heard

You weren't kidding. Thanks for mentioning this show. Never knew it existed and since your mention, I binge watched season 1. It's a hilarious mix of shooting arrows at bad guys until they admit their crimes and #FirstWorldProblems and #RichWhiteKids. So far my favorite subplot is the rich hero's rich friend being cut off from his trust fund and asking his rich hero friend for a job. Also, patiently waiting for someone to snap and say "OMG WE KNOW!!! YOU TOLD US ALREADY LIKE A BILLION TIMES!!!" after he drops into a conversation for the millionth time that he was stranded alone on an island for 5 years. Really silly show, but I can't stop watching it. twistedmentat posted:From what I heard I just missed Zachary Quinto being a good villain. Heroes was a sad victim of the Writer's Strike, it was doing pretty good up til then. Many a fine show were laid low before their time ( Pushing Daisies )

Really silly show, but I can't stop watching it. Yeah, but they keep forgetting, it seems. Especially his idiot sister. The action parts are pretty good, the drama parts are just bad because not many people can relate to scratching a Maserati or wanting to change from being the kind of person who rents a football stadium to play strip-football with supermodels into a regular person with a steady girlfriend. I mean, I personally totally get why you'd want to play strip-football with odels, I do it every weekend, but I don't get why anybody would want to change that. It's great. I haven't finished the first season yet, but I'm super keen to learn more about the island, and watch more of the list get crossed off. I don't give a poo poo about his dipshit rich family who can't seem to understand that being shipwrecked and tortured for 5 years is going to maybe make a person a little different when they get back. I don't think anyone who gets excited to watch a superhero show is in it to see stupenously wealthy people bitch about how they didn't get the convertable they wanted for their birthday, or wax poetic about how they've missed their son for so long and everything changed. Advertise the poo poo we actually want to see, not the boring filler if you want to get people to sit down and watch your show. Don't advertise your kick-em-up superhero show as if it's The Bold and the Beautiful. princecoo has a new favorite as of 03:35 on Dec 27, 2015 |

All I know about Heroes is that it was a mean-spirited show where the writers fell in love with the serial killer who extracts people's brains, to the point where he keeps coming back from the dead and even turns good for a while. Anyone female or non-white where pretty much hosed.

One aspect to Quinto's character that I kinda liked in Heroes is how his power worked - everyone thought that he ate peoples brains to steal their powers but when the immortal cheerleader calls him out on that, his response is: "Eat your brain? Claire that's disgusting". He actually is a super-engineer/ex-clockmaker - he looks at something and knows exactly how it works. He looks at the brains of the powered people to see where the imperfection that triggered the power lies then applies it (somehow, it's weird) to himself. It didn't make much sense but it was an interesting idea.

I saw Star Wars today and, Jesus Christ, 30 loving minutes of commercials before the film. I don't know if this is because the film can't have product placement, and so they advertise all the lovely licensed products but, gently caress, it made wanna leave. Not really dumb, I'd say the adult nostalgia demo is nearly as large as the kids demo, and even if it's kid-heavy, those kids are going to be dragging along plenty of parents. Protip for avoiding movie ads: call the theater and ask what time a particular showing gets out - just subtract the running time from that, and get there about 5 minutes before that point; maybe 10-15 mins if you want to see the actual trailers instead of random product commercials vvv: I don't need to spend money going to the movies to mock my friends Sentient Data has a new favorite as of 04:31 on Dec 28, 2015 |

Yeah this was easily my biggest problem with the show. Every few episodes they'd tease that they could be doing a much cooler show but would rather not because reasons. Like future Hiro would show up and teleport all over the place and look like a loving badass and say some killer one liner while looking cool as gently caress, and then he'd have to leave because reasons and then we'd be stuck with present Hiro being all Otakon and basically pissing himself at the slightest threat. And Peter pretty much became Goku in the future, but again would just piss himself in the present. The first time they showed future Peter's abilities I was like "oh poo poo, now this show is finally going to----er, nope, so much for that." Remember when they were going to explore why there were multiple characters played by Ali Larter with different powers, and why they had birthmarks that looked like that half dna strand they were going to explain and was apparently involved with the group half made of peoples' parents? And then remember how the writers strike happened and they just kinda forgot about that? Good times.

The lady characters on Heroes, without any exceptions I can recall, fell into one of four categories: completely passive powers (cheerleader, w/e some of Ali Larter's characters were up to); hysterical powers (tar-tears girl); controlled powers with a side of EVIL (electric lady, chameleon lady); and dead as soon as they're introduced (mimic girl, cheerleader's pyro-mom). Once I saw the pattern, I lost most of my interest in the show

She was having this weird existential crisis about the fact that she couldn't die and her very first appearance was, iirc, getting hit by a train and having her friend film it to document it since then they couldn't explain it. Basically, it's a really stupidly common comic book trope where characters are given "depth" by having them whine that their totally bad rear end power is a curse. I feel like the only time that ever worked was Rogue since her power had legitimate downsides.

Is the wikipedia pledge drive considered Marketing? It's so invasive I will never, ever donate to them, not that I was going to before. That reminds me of sites that go "You have an add blocker on, but we need ads to live so please disable them". You know people use adblockers becuase ads tend to have lots of adware in them, among other annoying factors, like autoplay music and video, garish colours and other things that annoy the poo poo out of everyone.
