I still kind of remember the url. It was something like comp-u-geek.net and people would give it out as a response when someone asked for computer help. I'd look it up on the way back machine but I don't feel like freezing my PC.

Do modern computers even still have PC speakers? The only time I hear that kind of sound on mine is when I play old DOS games through Dosbox, and I get the feeling that is emulated using the on-board sound device.

It used javascript to infinitelly spawn windows every time one was closed, and the audio sample I remember "Hey everybody, I'm looking at gay porn!" Knowing how to use the task manager was helpful, as was keeping the sound muted as a matter of course on your work machine. I think there was another variation that used "You are an idiot. Hahahahahaha." The original Rickroll site used javascript to pop up windows with song lyrics in sequence, but just as many as needed for the song - if you clicked them through fast enough you could get rid of it pretty quickly.

Oh man. I was in the dorms and one of the girls in the next room over opened one of those, and we all curiously came out of our rooms because HEY EVERYONE I'M LOOKING AT GAY PORNO HEY EVERYONE I'M LOOKING AT GAY PORNO was echoing down the hall Then the girl comes out of the room screaming "I'M NOT, I'M REALLY NOT, SOMEONE FIX THIS!" and stuff and we all were laughing at her until she physically yanked the plug out and it stopped. Aw. For the rest of the year people were telling her to stop looking at gay porno so much.

Wasn't the web game "Snowcraft" from about the late 90s? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Docnckr_wbQ I seem to recall a small bit that might have added to its popularity was that character design was similar to the then relatively new South Park, which I think prompted a few people to call it a South Park game. Also, icebox.com Home of all sorts of flash animation that was super hot 16 years ago. I seem to recall it had an additional novelty of some known actors contributing voices for series, but I don't think anything ever really caught on.

Once I finally could, that skeleton that came to life almost gave me a heart attack. 1000 Brown M and Ms posted:Do modern computers even still have PC speakers? If you consider about 4 years old to be modern, then yes, but I think not all machines have it. In fact, if I remember correctly I have a case that is about 6 years old which doesn't have a speaker in it (or anywhere to clip it in). You're way better off having it emulated because then you can control the volume, mute it, etc. I remember how awesome it was when I got a Sound Blaster Pro and worked out I could connect the PC speaker output from the motherboard up to it and have that output come through my headphones and not sound as bad. The Whole Internet posted:Arguably the hardest level in Commander Keen 3 I can't watch this spoiler, I finished Keen 2 a year or two ago but haven't gotten through Keen 3 yet! I'm getting my money's worth out of the "all id games" pack from Steam.
