Yeah, I suggested The Babadook because even though it has a couple BOO moments they aren't used in place of actual dread.

Under the Skin is another great option.

There weren't really any jump scares that aren't genuinely creepy in one way or another. I guess I should have said no cheap jump scares. Those stopped spiking my adrenaline ages ago, and that was when just the mere sight of a half decent scary alien would make me cower in fear.

Babadook is really good. Not to mention... well just see the drat movie for yourself, I feel like I would either spoil something or sound like an idiot talking about the themes of the movie. The so called "jump scares" were really the climax to a really intensely creepy gooddamn couple of scenes.

Also it has some of those straight up creepy scenes where they use creepy imagery but in a subtle way.

Any more good horror movie recommendations for netflix? Obviously I'd go for the headier psychological horror with some body horror if at all possible.

If you've seen A Nightmare on Elm Street, I'd recommend Wes Craven's New Nightmare as a follow-up to The Babadook. Both play on some of the same themes (although New Nightmare gets really meta-fictional) and Babadook even uses some of the same imagery as New Nightmare.

Re-Animator and Hellraiser aren't the most cerebral of horror films, but they'll probably scratch that body horror itch.

Fair point. It does have a good dose of thematic material to chew on, but (this might sound really stupid) it doesn't try to make a big deal about how heavy it is. I guess I'd more say it's as smart or brainless as you want it to be, where you can just as easily enjoy it on a surface level or if you want to dig in to its subtext.

Has anyone mentioned that Making a Murderer is one of the most infuriating things they've ever watched? No one? Really? Well, let me be the first to tell you, it is one of the most infuriating things I've ever watched.

By episode two I thought it would be impossible for episode four to be as infuriating as everyone was making it out to be. "How could this possibly get worse?", I thought to myself. Boy, did it sure deliver. I don't even know how to react to all this because if I go with anger I might just give myself an aneurysm.

You might want to watch Dream Warriors first because it's the only other film in the numbered series that features Heather Langenkamp, and it's a pretty good movie too. New Nightmare mostly plays off the first movie, though, so it's not essential to watch Dream Warriors.

It's a documentary that shows you a case where no one should be convicted based on the obviously planted evidence and coerced confessions and yet some people still are.

Whether or not he did it doesn't really matter, it's that the way the investigation was processed makes it really scary if the police decide they don't like you.

Can't go wrong with Korean horror. Check out "The Guard Post," for instance, it used to be up on netflix. Check out the korean movie thread in CD, there's a lot of great recommends and way more words than I'd care to repeat on a lot of very excellent and scary films.
