Any self-respecting raccoon, you wouldn’t even be able to get close enough, but a raccoon with distemper will just go ‘huh’ and lay there" Poking a wild animal with a stick sounds like pretty solid advice, thanks Toronto wildlife center

Outside of New Orleans there is a swamp boat tour you can take where they throw marshmallows at wildlife. The local raccoons know this and line up to get their sugar fix when they hear the boats and it's the cutest thing

Here's a nice article about getting wild raccoons to take medicines to stop the spread of disease. Although I do wonder why they're encouraging people to feed wildlife, as well. It seems like a good way to get animals to try and get into city limits, like when Banff had that bear/moose problem.

Aesop Poprock posted:Yeah wouldn't that actually be illegal to do as a touring company? Someone has to report them, and the police have to give a poo poo. This is New Orleans we're talking about. And I don't know if it's actually illegal, and if so what the fine is. It may well be less than the take from a tour, in which case both the company and the police have a viable business model. And again, this is NO we're talking about.

^^: Oh, that's different. I thought they were out in the forest by themselves, but if they're already being managed by a facility then there's not much point in not feeding them. Okay, this wouldn't be half as funny to me if these weren't all from Toronto. Wily little scamps. cash crab has a new favorite as of 22:34 on Dec 30, 2015 |

That looks like a Coffee Time opposed to a Tim Hortons. While adorable, I would never, ever go there again. Was linked from that http://www.buzzfeed.com/laurenstrapagiel/a-love-letter-to-trash-pandas#.oopBPKrPMV We do love our wash bears. If we ever get Olympics (which i really hope we don't) if the mascot isn't a Racoon this city has been failed.
