The battles were just the backdrop. Case in point: the battle where wedge straps Lt Kettch to his chest is just the punchline to the long-running joke. This is why it seriously was space top gun and good. Top gun wasn't good because of the pew pew and lock on split S. It was the volleyball scene and the locker room and the funny way iceman winks at maverick.

This is why on, one hand I'm glad the Tolkien estate hate and try to stop anything from expanding the Tolkienverse. You only needs to look at the games based on the movies to see how it would have gone down if they weren't so protective of it.

Why would "budget concerns" stop you from making the most badass possible suit for the #2 man and basically commander in chief of the armed forces of a totalitarian empire with a tax base in the multiple quadrillions of beings? I kind of envy them not knowing what BBY/ABY is. Is that an in-universe thing? I don't think they'd use the Battle of Yavin to define an epoch. Sheev would probably want to use the start of his rule, the Rebel Alliance would probably continue using whatever the Republic used to be contrarian.

# ? Jan 2, 2016 16:57 |

I don't know if BBY/ABY ever showed up in any comic/novel/game/whatever, but I agree that it's a silly thing to base an epoch around. The Rebels might, but the Republic was only in power a couple of decades ago so I don't think there's much point. As for the Empire, why the gently caress would they define an epoch around one of their biggest defeats?

The thing that really kills me about wookiepedia is how little they care about reality. I'm watching The Clone Wars and they introduce this new character. He doesn't sound like a voice actor, and he's got a voice that's really distinctive and seems familiar. So I wanna see who played him. I go to the Wookiepedia page, and I have to scroll through the whole drat thing, pages of poo poo about his lightsaber and where he was born, to get to the very last section, "Behind the scenes" and halfway through the first paragraph they finally say he was played by Jon Favreau. The actual reality of this stuff as things that exist in our world just doesn't matter, they only care about the in-universe minutia.

In the second season of the Clone Wars they do an episode that was Seven Samurai, and then a two-parter that was King Kong. They ran out of ideas real fast.

That said, IRL there were pretty big social and cultural changes after 9/11 so it's a good dividing point. IMO there's not really anything obvious like that between ANH and ESB. boom boom boom posted:The thing that really kills me about wookiepedia is how little they care about reality. Pretty much. It's really annoying. Even the Star Trek wiki is better - that one always has the actor who played a character listed in the info box at the top, with a separate page for the actor themselves.

There isn't, but ten years after that? Twenty? I think the general idea is that that date "marked the end of the Empire and the beginning of the New Republic" in the eyes of whoever the gently caress decided it. I think Luke muttered "these calendar changes are all dumb poo poo" when looking up Thrawn in Heir to the Empire, though.
