I feel like the league is going to approve the Raiders and Chargers moving, since St. Louis actually has a plan and funding secured. The stadium task force worked closely with the the relocation committee to get it right. Of course I'll be wrong and without a team by next week WOO

If this isn't resolved by next year, it'll be the death of any teams involved. Even die-hard fans aren't going to support a team that maybe kind of wants to move away. The NFL owners probably aren't collectively senile enough to have forgotten the lesson of the Oilers in Memphis.

Ross Angeles posted:Realistic possibilities: I think the first two are the likeliest. The Chargers will not be allowed to move on their own. Today, right now, Spanos could accept Kroenke's offer of a partnership at Inglewood and the whole thing would be resolved. He doesn't want to do that, though. I think the league could send Kroenke to LA for a year, give SD the opportunity to vote for stadium funding and if the city doesn't do it then force Spanos into Inglewood. Oakland is an interesting issue. If they get more funds than normal from the NFL to build a stadium, then other cities might not respond to this kind of extortion in the future. If the Chargers do leave I guess I'll be a Green Bay fan simply because they're not going to pull this poo poo.

Bip Roberts posted:How can a stadium be a problem there when Hollywood Park and The Forum exist. When we used to tailgate Forum events one of the games we would play in the parking lot was "Bet The Arrival" for drinks. You had to guess whether the flight would be International or Domestic and for a bonus guess the exact airline company. You could get blasted very quickly because the flow of air traffic was constant and relentless. The amount of planes passing by don't mean much to an event once inside The Forum but for an outdoor stadium television sound engineers would have their work cut out for them to drown out that loud cacophony for the entire course of a football game. No fancy fly-bys or parachuters landing into the stadium either. The FAA doesn't give a gently caress about football, they have their hands full keeping track of all of air traffic coming and going from one of the world's busiest airports. The Carson site, while not sexy either, doesn't have that issue and "Eagle" HQ for the Goodyear blimp is literally a walk up the street with carte blanche to fly.

The A's have the advantage in that they signed a ten year contract for it while the raiders have been on one year deals.

Chargers have basically no winning moves at this point - I know multiple die-hard fans here who just stopped watching football this year. It'd be one thing if they had had a decent season, but people are pissed off at Spanos, pissed off at the team for being a flaming shitstorm of horrible losers who suck, and pissed off at the city in general for the ridiculous mark-up to watch a team of useless babies flail around in a lovely broken-down stadium. The soul of football is dying a gruesome death in San Diego, and what's the Chargers' solution? Move to Los Angeles. Where basically no one wants them. At this point if they don't move to LA and have to move back to SD, they've damaged their reputation and are hosed. If they do move to LA, even less people will care and they're hosed.
