Other thing about that video - the plug is made for 120V. He's connecting it to 240V. It's going to draw four times as much power on the 240V circuit.

Looks like a chinese plug, and China uses 220v like the UK

What the hell, does Brazil have two different voltages within the country?

Edit: Yup, they do, and of course Brazilians use the same plug for both mains voltages.

they have both 50hz and 60hz because utilities on opposite ends of the country imported their first generators from different countries (germany and the US)

I believe that they also have a large rotary converter station that allows them to send power between the 50Hz and 60Hz grids.

No, in Brazil different parts of the mains network have the same 60 Hz frequency, but different voltages.

A difference in voltages seems like massive fire hazard, whereas a difference in frequencies mostly seems like a good way to screw with impedance tuning.

Texas has its own rotary converters (or rather, the solid state equivalent).

It’s not entirely clear to my why Texas’ grid can’t be synchronised with the eastern or western interconnection, but for whatever reason, it isn’t.

There's no electrical reasons, but lots of political and regulatory ones. Most industry and power organizations <3 ERCOT and changes to the Texas grid often don't require FERC to get involved.

The fact Texas is on its own grid, and thus ERCOT is the sole regulator, is credited with allowing Texas's wind industry to explode.

AC motors will also spin at different speeds and transformers may need to be re-rated.

Starting August 1st, OSHA penalties will increase to index it with inflation. The maximum penalty for serious violations will jump from $7,000 to $12,471. Still a drop in the bucket but at least it could help.

There's been an incident on a Carnival Cruise ship a couple weeks ago that resulted in a remake of the elevator scene from The Shinning.

The illustration makes it look like there are outer doors.
Were paternoster elevators even installed in residential buildings? They're kind of meant for a constant stream of passengers.

Varning för klämrisk.

None of the elevators featuring the warning sign are paternosters when doing an image search.
They were just too cheap to install cabins with inner doors, so people can get stuck to the elevator shaft.
