Thinking of picking up a watch, but just wondering whether it's worth waiting until the second version comes out. Is there a consensus or rumour about when we should expect another model? Or if that will even be a significant enough upgrade to wait for?

I think it could be significant just cause the current one is basically an A5 at 28nm (i.e. old CPU on an old/larger process). I wouldn't expect the latest core or anything, but Apple has come a long way since then CPU wise nearly every generation. Plus one benefit the Watch has vs the other devices is a tiny screen and relatively simplistic uses, so they won't have to put as much of an emphasis on GPU performance and use up more die space there. There's rumors of sensor stuff or various other features, but I think I'd be happy if the main thing was just better performance...and louder speaker would be nice I guess for the times I've answered calls on it. Other stuff I'd want is more software related. If you want one of the fancier steel ones I'd wait, or if you want one now just find a deal on a sport model then sell/upgrade to a fancier one when the second gen comes out (if it's enough of an upgrade for you at least).

My biggest complaint is that it is dog slow. A faster processor would be an easy way for them to make it The Best Apple Watch Yet™.

I wouldn't buy mid cycle. You will have the best watch for 3-4 months rather than for a year.

I still wear my watch, but the apps are all pretty slow so I just don't use them anymore. I use it mostly for notifications and time.

I'm basing my decision to wait on history. The differences between the iPad 1 and 2 as well as the iPhone 1 and 2 were enormous.

I got mine half off due to the Target and Best Buy sales, but I'd feel really bad paying more than that $200. (Especially considering I *did* pay more than that when I bought a steel one that I promptly returned.)

Re-bought it after WatchOS 2.0 and the Best Buy deal. It's worth it at the cheap price but under no circumstances would I recommend paying full price for one.

IMO, this is also the current state of Android Wear. I had the Moto 360v1 for a while and found I was just using it for notifications. I picked up the Garmin Vivoactive for a song and it's been tremendous. Ten day battery life, ability to do accurate GPS for all activities, and straightforward and simple notification mirroring. It's not fancy, it's not pretty, but it's great. Anxiously waiting for iWatch 2.0 with built in GPS and better battery though. I'll drop for that.

TIL that hard-pressing on the notification screen gives you an option to clear all notifications.

I use my watch so little anymore, I would like to sell it but I cracked the screen only slightly at the top so .. im sure that makes the value plummet.

I bought one because I am a terrible person. Two questions: 1. Countrymen, give me your apps. What do you use that's cool/useful? 2. Does Overcast allow you to sync podcasts to the Watch itself?

Unless you are using it for fitness purposes I don't think there are any useful apps. Playing with the little screen just isn't a good experience. I still wear it every waking minute because notifications + reminders on my wrist is the best.

I think aside from timers and the fitness apps the app I use the most is the remote app Oh and Bring! which is a pretty baller shopping list app. I do like that.

Nah Apple Watch isn't poo poo, the concept of playing games or writing emails or other weird app stuff on a watch screen is poo poo.

Saying there aren't many useful/worthwhile third-party apps and making GBS threads on it are two different things.

It isn't poo poo, it just isn't anything special and Apple can't produce it for anywhere near as cheap as it'd need to be to appeal to most people. $450 CAD is almost laughable. If they could find a way to cut the price in half and market it as a FitBit killer it'd probably be a lot more interesting.

I don't think the Apple Watch should have apps.

Yeah apps are not a highlight of the Watch at all. I wear my Apple Watch every day. It's fantastic when you have an iPhone Plus that's a pain in the arse to get out of your pocket every time it vibrates, watch notifications let you ignore your phone way more often. But yeah, there's no good apps. The app experience is awful. I installed my bank app because it adds a glance that shows you your bank balance. I use that maybe once a day. Also the heart rate monitor on the watch is loving atrocious compared to the fitbit. It will often go hours without reading. Even if you start a workout sometimes it just fucks off and ignores you for 20 mins at a time.

I tell people all the time that it isn't worth the price based on functionality. The price is due to materials and fit and finish, which are very high. It is a luxury good. (Well unless you can get a sport for half off or whatever). I'm at the point where I hate it if I discover I left the house without it. It's part of my...god I'd hate to use the term digital lifestyle, because I'm not in marketing, so, maybe my...routine? I rely on it. I don't use any apps on it. It's too slow and the screen too small for that. But for the baked in functionality of notifications and siri messaging/control, it is pretty great.

Y'all are haters. Just think of it as a Today screen/widget panel on your wrist.WithoutTheFezOn posted:Reminders Plus or Reminders Nano, to let you actually see a reminders list (and check off items). Seconding Reminders Nano. The iPhone app is poo poo (keep using the stock app there) but the watch app is a dream. Also DarkSky and whatever comes along with a non-stock-mail-app, unless you like scrolling through the entire inevitably-too-long message to deal with it from the watch. Mailing lists are the worst for this. Otherwise, any functions that you might use widgets for great. Sports scores and the like.

The Pebble is not an upgrade to the Apple Watch, let's not embarrass ourselves, particularly when the cost of the suggested alternative device is basically the same at >$200.00

My watch is okay. Just okay. I don't really do anything with it other than wear it. I like getting the silent notifications on my wrist whenever I get a text or anything. It's my favorite part and lets me leave my phone alone now. But I haven't used like the Maps app on it, or the timer, or anything. I set up my watch face to tell me the current time, the temperature, the date, and the time in another city but that's all. It's neat and the notifications aspect of it are alone enough to make me not regret buying it, but I also bought it at Target with the $100 discount plus the $100 gift card so if I didn't have those then yeah I'd also probably feel regret by now.

Dark Sky for weather. The complication is awesome and when the app works it's nice to get extended forecasts. I also use Lose It! to count calories and stay on my diet. The complication shows you how many calories you have left for the day and in the app you can hard press to quickly add meals and snacks. It all links to health kit and and factors in your activity from the watch and weight if you have a wifi scale. I'm down about 8lbs so far. I started using water minder too which lets you track your water intake (based on your weight from health kit). It has a nice complication that lets you see where you're at and you can enter your intake on the app.
