So yeah, just have him hang back. What I did is a staggered/pinwheel for the FOs and Vessery to the side, closer to the table edge.

Going to be posting this in the Warmachine/Hordes thread too for feelers: I'm moving to Ottawa in a couple of months, which means I'm going to be leaving my big gaming group behind (roughly twelve of us that got into WMH together, and got into X-Wing together). Are there any Ottawa-Goons, or anyone who knows if there is a big presence there for WMH or X-Wing? I know Toronto has Meeplemart and a few other stores, which are great, but I'm not very familiar with Ottawa at all.

You definitely need him nearby, the swarm needs to target the ship he hits with the tractor beam. TIE/Ds are awesome, but don't forget that in the end they are support ships. Potent support ships, but on their own they're still only doing a single 3-die attack of actual damage.

So, ran this today:quote:Captain Yorr (24) Wasn't entirely sure what to put on Howlrunner or Mauler for an EPT, and I think when I first built this list I had 2 lower-skill pilots involved...but whatever. Flew against Tycho with a pile of toys on board (stealth device and assault missles I think?), Horton with a TLT, and Etahn A'bhat in an E-wing.. Tycho hits the gas on the first turn, doing a 5 speed maneuver then a 1-bank boost to get into range of my shuttle. Tycho doesn't care about the stress-candy that Captain Yorr's shuttle is handing out, so my opponent figured he would lead off with Tycho as much as he could vs the shuttle to keep Horton and Etahn from getting stressed out by shooting at it. First round: Tycho shoots, and pulls 2 shields off of the shuttle. The shuttle shoots back, with 2 crits and a hit at range 3. Tycho had a stealth device, plus the range bonus, plus his 3 green dice base...and all of them failed. The crit that landed on the hull was a 2x damage card; my shuttle pulled a one-shot kill on an ace A-Wing at range 3 on the very first game round. From there the TIE fighter ace-swarm moving up the center-right of the board killed Etahn while he was hiding in a debris field (losing Howlrunner in the process), then caught Horton in a pincer move at range 1 in front of all 3 of my remaining TIE fighters (2 of them did a 4K turn and the other did a 2 forward, with Horton landing directly in the middle). Out of arc for Backstabber (+1 red for range 1, +1 red for out of arc), range 1 for Mauler Mithel (+2 reds), and range 1 of Dark Curse. My red dice were on fire, and so was Horton's ship soon thereafter. Howlrunner was my only loss over the game, though some of the other TIE fighters had damage cards on them and the shuttle was missing like 3/5 shields. That game was just insane

I've been considering a Keyan build with opportunist and heavy laser cannon, but that's like 40 points in one Bwing. Accuracy corrector doesn't work with the TIE advanced special targeting computer, right?

Went 3-0 at league tonight. First match was my Fat Han and Standard Poe vs. Oicun and Whisper. Keeping my distance and chipping away at him I won out. Chewie was included on the Falcon for theme more than anything, and ended up preventing two crits and regenning a shield. (He had Vader on the Decimator and declined to use him when it was going to trigger Chewie the first time). Next two matches I used Vader with the Advanced patch cards, VI, and Engine Upgrade, plus a mini swarm of Swarm Tactics Howlrunner and three black cracks. I am fully sold on the efficacy of the 15 point black crack. First match was against vader, scourge, whisper. My vader took out his whisper pretty quickly with some arc dodging. I'm also pretty sold on VI Vader. Having garunteed initiative against all kinds of choice aces including Poe, Whisper, Fel, Etc.is good. IMO Vader's pilot text plus the ATC is decent enough a proper EPT is more a "nice to have" on him. I was able to take out Scourge without him getting a shot off thanks to Swarm Tactics on Howlrunner, and though I lost Vader to pitiful unforced errors including forgetting to select a manuever after a K-turn, letting him plow me into rocks, the mini swarm was able to corner and chew his Vader to pieces. Next Match was against Fat Han (PTL/Jan Ors/tactician Build) and 2 Blue Squadron B-Wings. Jan/Tactician is tough to get through, what with 2 evades and a focus! I ended up outflanking and chewing up the Bs with the mini-swarm pretty handilly, but lost Vader a little quicker than I'd like. I ended up chasing him off the board with a bad maneuver with 2 ties left and like 3 hull left on Han. In general the PTL/Jan/Evade gimmick was making him pretty predictable on his dial. I really like the Howlrunner/3 black crack mini swarm module. It's got great table presence, punches above its weight, and is at just the right PS to clown on fodder but still block aces. I will probably try it slotting in different aces with that last 35 points.

Flew Echo for the first time tonight, was a lot of fun. Really feels like he could end up anywhere on the board after a decloak. Echo - Lone Wolf, Stygium Particle Accelerator, Recon Specialist, Fire Control System Omega Leader - Juke, Comm Relay, Stealth Device Epsilon Ace Epsilon Squadron Pilot Epsilon Ace didn't really do much for me, though to be honest I was having a hard time remembering his PS bonus. I was thinking I could probably bust him down to a regular squaddie to pick up advanced cloak on Echo.

You really can't go wrong with Soontir or Vader. Soontir is more defensive; Vader hits harder. Pick your poison. For a non-standard choice, consider Deathrain with Advanced Sensors, Seismic Charges, Proximity Mines, and Extra Munitions. You can drop bombs ANYWHERE with that combo, and get excellent map control. The hard part is learning your spacing so you don't bomb your miniswarm. That comes with practice. You'll have a point left; give Howl a Crack Shot of her own, or Determination, or perhaps Twin Ion Engine Mk 2 for Deathrain. You could also swap Proxy Mines for Connor Nets.

Hey there fellow 'wangers, just got back from Sri Lanka and have bought another bunch of X-Wing stuff, including the K-Wing and standalone X-Wings + TIE/FOs (got the new core set ones, too) and have put together this XXY list:quote:Horton Salm — Y-Wing 25 Now, I'm not so sure about a few aspects of it, really. Especially after seeing a couple of the XXY lists goons here posted some weeks ago. First being the Y-Wing - with Horton should I really be using BTL-A4 with the TLT like this? I really like the idea of being able to perform three attacks with re-rolls at ranges 2-3, although with no added benefits like the stressbot, is it really worth restricting the turret to my arc of fire? Alternatively, should I just ditch Horton entirely and just go for a cheapo generic stressbot? Never used one or gone up against one to be honest, so I'm not sure how worthwhile it would be for me. Secondly, the X-Wings. Red Ace is more-or-less set up as I'd like him to be (although possibly with Autothrusters instead of IA, if I had the points), although I'm not sold on Ello's setup. I know Poe is probably outright more effective in terms of combat ability, however he's more pricey and Ello (particularly with BB-8) is much more maneuverable. However again, due to him being a new pilot for me, I'm not sure if this is considered a good setup for him, or if I should be altering my setup. So yeah, any advice/insight would be greatly appreciated! I feel that I've gotten somewhat rusty with my list-building, as I haven't even looked at the game in the last month or so. EDIT: Poopy Palpy posted:You know that box on every X-Wing product that says "Fantasy Flight Card Sleeves" and has blue and yellow squares with 1s in them? I really like the idea of being able to perform three attacks with re-rolls at ranges 2-3, although with no added benefits like the stressbot, is it really worth restricting the turret to my arc of fire? Cheap-o generic stressbot provides you a layer of security - in that it allows you to kit out the actual aces with the tools they need to kill things quickly (or, failing that, the tools to survive long enough to kill stuff). While it isn't the Only Path To XXY Success, it is certainly an effective one, as I'm 4-0 in my store league with this list and something like a combined 18-3 running it against a whole host of stuff. Autothrusters is a difference-maker on the T-70s, because they need their green dice to get as much mileage as possible (and the preponderance of turrets makes this a no-brainer, I feel). Integrated Astromech is a solid trick in that it can and will save you, but neither of your X-Wings really want to lose their 'bot; just stay at range or out of arc and let Autothrusters carry you, because if Poe especially has to give away, say, R5-P9, he's effectively already dead anyway, outside of some super-niche scenarios. Regarding Ello versus Poe, Ello is literally one point cheaper for a point less of PS and a nifty pilot ability that still isn't as broadly useful as Poe's. Both suffer under stress, to be sure, but Poe will likely be moving at PS9 or PS10 and shooting similarly; Ello's lower PS either necessitates Veteran Instincts or leaves him much more vulnerable (and in your list he doesn't have VI). If you're kitting each of them out (in my opinion that's Veteran Instincts/R2 Astromech/Autothrusters for Ello, and Adaptability/R5-P9/Autothrusters for Poe), Poe winds up being 2 points more expensive against the cap, and is much better than two points' worth of salary space. My Rebel ship collection is two T-70s, an A-Wing and a B-Wing; I'm going to proxy all the upgrades, but I'm not buying anymore ships for a while. If you want to run PTL on Poe Dameron, you'll also want to swap from R5-P9 to BB-8, in my opinion, which gives you an increased flexibility in where Poe will end up if you're going to limit yourself to green maneuvers anyway. Barrel Roll+Boost is a good way to get a lot of early discretionary movement, or Barrel Roll+Focus if you want to Boost at the end of your maneuver, or whatever - this also makes you more versatile in when you want to just drop the combo and do a T-Roll or a white 2-speed turn and open up on a guy. Either swap the Astromechs, or give Poe Adaptability/Veteran Instincts for his Elite and move last/shoot first. If you drop PTL from Poe and go to Adaptability, you free up exactly enough points to upgrade both of your aces to Autothrusters, which is great. And if you're going to A-Wing for sure anyway, Jake Farrell with PTL is the way to go, I feel, barring some stress-driven theatrics from Tycho.
