The finals were good fun, with the Ika Tama Kids winning 3-1 over Yumeiro BWI. There were a ton of people watching, too - way over 400k. They brought up the producer to give a speech at the end and he was very obviously overwhelmed by the size of the event and the popularity of the game, and he made a comment to the effect of "we said we'd be finishing the updates after January, but maybe there's a little something more we can do..."

Well, that's the EU splatfest. If the previous Ninja Splatfest was any indication, Barbarians will win thru superiority. This at least correlates with my performance: I played for about two hours today, and I didn't lose a single match. I was on +37 or something when it ended. Brutal.

Yeah, I was on Team Barbarian, and racked up 34 wins vs 7 losses by the time I reached the top rank. Many of those wins were hugely one-sided affairs. I figured that a lot people with a "ninja playstyle" would be using rollers, so there was a high likelihood of all-roller teams, and also that they'd be used to having ninja squid or cold-blooded for ambushing people, which you can't use during splatfest. So I decided I wanted to be on the other team. I also picked a weapon with Echolocation and gear that was heavy on special charge up and duration, to exploit that weakness. It seemed to work, that was the best splatfest result I've ever had! Edit: and the Barbarians win! Suaimhneas fucked around with this message at 20:06 on Jan 31, 2016 |

77% popularity vote? Crazy. That's probably the highest it'll get. I mean, Pirates vs Ninja was only 28% to 72%. No. 1 Callie Fan fucked around with this message at 20:12 on Jan 31, 2016 |

Ironically, I ranked up to Champion by taking a roller and ambushing people. Does it count if you shout a warcry whilst doing it? Anyway, I racked up a lot of wins that way, only getting stymied on the rare occasions where the enemy team were competent. An unfortunate number of them didn't seem to be very switched on. It was my first time playing all three of the Splatfest maps, and I like Ancho-V's interactive elements and elevation gimmicks a whole lot! There aren't any nests for Chargers which is always good. The only real memorable thing about the warehouse was Callie and Marie's banter for it, otherwise it was pretty okay but nothing special. I don't think I enjoyed a single Piranha Pit match - needing to go left to paint the majority of your terrain and having to cross the enemy team's sightlines to get to the other side messes with me fierce. Edit: HEEEEELLL YEAH WITNESS ME INKBAGS

Yeah, Walleye Warehouse is probably one of the earliest map designs - it was one of two used in the Global Testfire, along with Saltspray Rig, a while before the game even came out - so it's pretty simple compared to some of the later-added stages.

Got to Queen, beat the tar out of Team Ninja 'But Smiles, weren't you on Team Ninja???' Yes. I think I've had less than 10 matches out of 40 which were against Team Barbarian, and lost on one of those cause two of my team disconnected and I ended up with a Roller who stood in one spot and threw suction bombs at the enemy team, after which I knew that Team Ninja was doomed if this was how they played.

On one hand I could see myself using, maybe even enjoying, voice chat. On the other hand, nearly every round I play outside of splatfest is with Japanese players so it would be worthless to me. And yeah, those numbers are your splats/splatted counts.

You can find a lot of great random teammates on Discord, and so far I've never had trouble finding players when I play in the evenings. And even if you don't have a mic, you can just listen in and people are fine with that.

I don't know where you live, but cable options are in many places extremely limited and if the one or maybe two high speed providers decide to start metering there's basically fuckall you can do about it. In my area the only broadband provider is Comcast. I live in a city of over 850,000 people. Your other option is AT&T's DSL service.

jivjov posted:Is it not? I had never even heard of data caps until I joined SA. Depends on country, region and ISP. I live in Mexico, but I'm in a border city so I hear every now and then about data caps on American TV channels and radio. Hopefully that doesn't give ideas for the ISPs over here. Over here, what's common is for phone/cable/Internet providers to provide 'packages', which often tend to include Cable TV, Phone Service (phone, not cellphone) and Internet (in our home, we have the medium package with 10 Mbps for Internet, I think the cheapest of our ISP offers 5 Mbps and the most expensive 20, with higher for businesses, I don't remember very well). The catch is that, depending on the company, if you just want one service (like just internet) they up the price or just offer you the lowest speed. Or refuse to do that at all and you have to pay for a phone or cable TV service that you'll probably hardly ever use. The only data caps I know over here are for cellphone plans / prepaid credit for cellphones.
