ComposerGuy posted:I mean, sure, it's just that the human voice doesn't really work in such a way as to change as drastically as the change here. While age *does* change your voice somewhat (called presbyphonia), it only really introduces minor issues like slight pitch alterations (although men's voices actually alter *up* with age, not down) and some gruffness. Even years of heavy chain-smoking and drinking, while it will gravel-up the sound, won't fundamentally alter the "sound" of your voice at a base level outside of you suddenly needing a hole cut in your throat and/or severe vocal damage...but the Bradford in X2 speaks with normal clarity and no signs of that kind of extreme trauma. I didn't like Bradford from the first game. He said really obvious things all the time. I prefer to think that this older, different-sounding dude is just some drunken mountain man impersonating Bradford, and everyone kind of knows it but doesn't really care. re: using SMGs in your first playthrough if you run the long war dev mods it'll probably make steam achievements disabled, how could you miss the sweet achieves??!?? Do we know if they'll be running a statistic breakdown compared to other players at the victory screen? i look forward to finding out the average amount of ingame days played in a victory being 99,000 or whatever bugged numbers it spat out last time.

Mods disabling cheevos is something you pulled from your rear end. Why on earth would they favor the absolute sanctity of achievements (lol) over a potential thriving mod community which can provide extra sales for years, at no cost to themselves? Some people will use their custom babyfur easy mode mod to get the legendary achievements, big whoop.

Not really sold on the tier 3 weapons and armor as they're too smooth, too round and looks a lot like Archangel armor in EU. Looks like the patched together jury-rigged theme doesn't hold out in the late game

The chain lightning effect "jumps to" (makes an aim roll against) a random target in range, with no check for friendly fire. monster on a stick posted:You interpreted correctly the second time, 2 looks pretty grognard. They definitely took a lot of notes from the LW book. They took a bunch of notes from LW. They took some notes from watching people obsessively play the game and how they broke EU/EW (same as how they added stuff like Meld in EW after seeing the Beaglerush style of ultra-conservative play). I think they even took some notes from the xcom boardgame. The one-use projects that give you a single reward or piece of equipment feel like burning a research card for an ability in that. I don't think Xcom 2 is nearly as grognardy as Long War; most of the complexity feels about the same level as the EW expansion rather than LW. "Grodnard" is more about complexity and quantity of detail rather than pure difficulty. Stuff like the class system is still way more streamlined than LW's additions. As someone who always wanted a "long war lite" I'm pretty happy that they nabbed some of the best ideas -- especially the starter alien units getting upgrades over time -- without going too far from the original formula.

How difficult would it be do mod in assets directly from Long War? I'd love to see some Long-War style hybrid classes as well as the greater weapon variety that LW provided. I know that they've already added the submachine gun, but it would be great to see carbines and marksman rifles as well.

Thankfully, you are talking about wh40k which has many weird, obsessive fans who will create enormous numbers of mods for this game on the workshop. Take some of those, tweak the numbers so they aren't stupid and you are good to go. Seriously, bolter mods will be as easy to find for xcom 2 as waifu mods are for skyrim. Note: waifu mods will also be easy to find for xcom 2.

I think the mag weapons look pretty neat, personally! Beams were the best in EW, though, true, except for Suppression. Not enough beams when a Support used it, and I never took it on Heavies.

Big thanks to Iron Rose for that easier long war mod. It has made all the difference between it being a challenging game vs a self flagellating torture simulator. That said, I am still scared shitless about this first alien base assault. Its mid august and I have just gotten Gauss tech though I will be about 3 weeks out before I can finish enough gear to send a decently equipped squad. Should I just send my A team now with lasers or wait the extra month for to try and partially equip them with some gauss tech?

Is the digital deluxe version worth it? I'm probably gonna get it anyway, since here in Korea both versions seem pretty cheap compared to the usd prices, but not if the future dlc is completely worthless. From what I can tell, it's 2 additional missions, a new class, some new weapons, and some cosmetic stuff. Anything I'm missing?
