The only really annoying part is there is like 20 seconds between the last alien move and when I can go again every turn. Don't know if it is just the tutorial or if it will always be this bad, but it doesn't seem to be a graphics card issue as the graphics stay responsive during the whole time, it is just like there is this giant pause in scripting.

Guess I can have hope with my GTX 440 then. Though somehow that ran the Division Beta in high...so perhaps it's all just shifty optimization.

Has anyone done the Avenger Defence mission? It is an absolute nightmare. 20 turns and 50+ enemies later...

- You cannot let an enemy enter your base
- You must destroy an object across the map
- 3-5 Advent are dropped in each turn
- There are also enemies already populated on the map

You do get to use injured soldiers, and you get to use 6 + a few reinforcements. But this mission is such a slog. You will spend most of your turns shooting enemies because you can't take any risks, and progress is so slow towards the objective due to Advent drops.

I am playing on commander so I don't know what that changes, but I sure hope I don't have to do one of these again!

this is helpful for messing with the ini

http://www.pcgamer.com/how-to-tweak-xcom-2-ini-files-for-fun-and-danger/

I increased the default squad size to 6 (8 with officer training school equivalent), added an extra enemy to every pod, and changed the weapons around so ranger/specialist/psi-op can now all use rifles, smgs, and shotguns. also that slowing people down when they're carrying bodies thing. I might adjust the enemy aim so it's like the original game, I'll have to try it out some more at the default.

that is basically the tip of the iceberg and all just reasonable first game stuff. you can really gently caress with things and deploy 30+ troops or start editing hp and damage values and stuff like that.

Pretty much yeah, they claim they're clamping down on terrorism while keeping the missions themselves under wraps.

They're also blaming abductions on XCOM terrorists too. ADVENT's got a pretty good propaganda machine running.

I'm really hoping this is the case. I've got an HD7950 on an i5 3570 and 16gigs of ram. I was getting <10fps in base view, and 20-25 average in game. I do have everything set to maximum, but in all seriousness a 7950 is pretty much an R9 280, and should be performing much better than it is. I also tried whacking settings down a few notches but didn't see a noticeable gain in fps.

Also, the game client ended up chewing up 8 gigs of ram on me last night. Sheesh.

It's nowhere near as hard as it's being worked up to be here.

If they're dead, it will say they've been killed in the bottom right of the screen, and you will see the pool of blood. If they are unconscious, it says 'unconscious' next to them when they are rendered as such.

As for carrying dead or incapacitated people - if the mission ends with an evac (either prematurely due to FUBAR, or because it's part of the mission), you must carry anybody who died unless you want to lose their stuff. If it doesn't, you can leave the dead and unconscious on the floor.

You could have it crop up as a rare event. In fact, having a bunch of these kinds of events crop up every so often would be neat. Some ideas:

- captured soldiers can sometimes be found with Sectoid pods. Killing the Sectoid rescues your soldier, though you'll want to make sure everything else is dead so he doesn't immediately get shot by ADVENT.
- you can sometimes find some resistance members running their own op on a mission. Helping them complete THEIR objective gives you something nice, like a small bit of intel or maybe some supplies or something.
- VIPs can sometimes be Faceless infiltrators, which can have repercussions if you don't figure it out in time, like damage to a facility or a loss of resources. The worst thing would be finding out that the star soldier you rescued last month turned out to be a Faceless and transforms on you during a critical moment.

It is really a rough map, especially considering that the reenforcements don't come in with any gear or items equipped if you put them all on your A-team.

The key to getting in and out relatively fast is realizing that you are trying to destroy the relay, not hack or cap it, and it doesn't have as much health as you think. If you can move up a couple of guys or even have a spotter for two snipers in the back then you can burn it down in a couple of turns and then GTFO. An important thing is that shots against it have a 100% chance of hitting, so even if your snipers are six miles away they will still hit it consistently, same with shotguns at long range. If you can see it then you can hit it every time.

It's the tutorial mission. If you opt out of the tutorial, you end up doing Gatecrasher. If you opt into the tutorial, you play the mission to rescue the Commander (i.e. you) from stasis inside a gene therapy clinic, with Gatecrasher providing the distraction that draws the bulk of the soldiers away.

Also now facing a total squad wipe on the first retaliation mission that just came up. I'm loving it.

So, what's the counter to Lancers? Because currently they're making the game unplayably tedious. Every mission I'm losing most of my squad as each enemy group has 2 lancers that run across the field and one shot my dudes, and I just don't have the firepower to deal with their 7 health each before their turns start.

Yeah I made the accident of triggering that first one at the end of an otherwise normal mission and still lost a dude getting out despite getting some very lucky shots in and taking half its health in the first round. I can't imagine the pain (yes I can, it's called ragequit) if you were to fire it off slam in the middle of a mission or with other enemies around.

Can't ambush on an Evac mission. And even then, that only deals with one of the three enemy squads on the mission, leaving 4 Lancers on the map unambushable.
