Puppy Time posted:I think it's pretty clear that the infographic isn't great based on the fact that people can get such wildly different messages from it. It's kind of obviously failed to communicate whatever it was trying to communicate if so many people can't agree on the intended message. I found it to be a little strange, personally. I think it could have been worded a little better. Anyway. A guy I know posts a lot of weird, esoteric gobbledegook on the regular, and posted this: So, naturally, I had to find out what it was. Some weird stuff about working out, and also wolves and runes. The public FB page is, uh... interesting, I guess. On this second one, Paul Waggener, the founder, asks people not to use racial epithets on his page. Which I think is a little rich coming from a guy who has a Black Sun tattoo and named his club Operation Werewolf. ps: I should mention there's many, many references to "cuckoldry" on this page.

I'm so confused about the reference to Kali, especially because the Kali Puja is a very eastern-India thing. It seems an oddly specific thing to hate.

The CDC thing is bullshit because it treats all women as potential incubators, and that's a creepy Handmaid's Tale road you don't wanna go down. It's not overt but it's still fairly dehumanizing.

I think it's referring to Kali Yuga. It's a loving weird reference, but from what I understand, Operation Werewolf seeks to destroy "personal weaknesses" (i.e.: porn [it's emasculating! Somehow], what they consider to be multiple forms of cuckoldry such as watching sports [???], eating too much, probably petting cats) and the Kali Yuga era is supposed to be a low point of civilization. So, I think it's like, "Because we are so strong and cool, we alone will weather an era of bad things." Which is sort of weird, again, for an organization that seems to have a lot of really Nazi-ish overtones to refer to a scripture that thinks that being assholes to each other is a cultural lowpoint. I think. I'm honestly sort of confused. On that note, I did find a picture of their founder sacrificing a sheep and eating its heart. How wholesome!

Picnic Princess posted:If there's also an infographic for men about the risks of alcohol intake that also includes violence, STDs and causing unwanted pregnancy then the CDC graphic is fine. If not, maybe then you guys will see why some people are taking issue with it. Even if there were a comparable infographic for men, it's still not fine because it's not actually supported by strong evidence. Since teratogens can't even pass into fetal circulation for ~4 weeks after conception (i.e. well after the first missed period), "don't drink ever because you might get pregnant and that might affect the baby" makes no sense. It's definitely true that there's no clear safe dosage of alcohol during pregnancy because there's so much individual variation, but it's also really clear that there are more factors involved than just the amount of alcohol consumed because of the variation in FASD between demographics and cultures even at comparable levels of consumption. The infographic isn't well-presented and doesn't offer useful information for women. My immediate assumption about anyone who's saying, "Well, TO BE FAIR, it's a legitimate health issue" is that they're unable to look past whatever assumptions they have about women to critically assess whether this infographic offers anything of value to the public discussion of FASD (which is, in fact, a legitimate health issue that deserves much better public information). FAROOQ posted:Check your ignorance. LOL there is a huge difference between a widely-disseminated infographic and an infosheet tucked away on the CDC website.
