My favorite is still James Gordon seeking out Oracle in the Injustice comic and making it apparent that for years he's turned a blind eye to her, Wayne and Grayson. When she asked how he knew, he yelled, "BECAUSE I'M A DETECTIVE!" Second favorite is how everyone was playing along with Wolverine when it came to his Patch disguise.

While the story was really good, I still prefer the version where Aunt May always knew, because despite the fact that it clashes with some of her characterization on hating that hoodlum Spider-Man, it gives more credit to the character recognizing and coming to terms that her son bravely risks his life every day both from a sense of responsibility and of in a way apologizing for Ben's murder.

As part of The Pricipiled JJJ talk and now this I always thought it would have been great if Jameson reveled that he knew Peter was Spiderman the whole time and he decided to call Spider-man a menace in an attempt to get this smug fifteen year old kid who's looking to get famous by playing crimefighter to stop before he pisses of some mob boss and get thrown into the Hudson wearing a pair of cement boots. Jameson kept it up because it seemed to motivate Peter to do better.

In the 1996 Daily Bugle mini-series, Ben Urich found out a congressman pushing puritanical laws through that Jonah endorsed had a porn star mistress who worked for a mob boss. The mob was planning to blackmail him with her profession.  David D. In addition to being a comic reader, I'm a wrestling fan. There's terminology in wrestling called "turning face". Essentially it means you become a good guy, either by default because who you're facing is even more of a bastard than you, or because you take a principled stand, because everybody, even assholes, have lines they won't cross. I'm a big fan of the second kind, and JJJ "turning face" in Ultimate Spider-Man is one of the most iconic examples of that in comics history. It made sense. It allowed him to still be JJJ while realizing that he had his limits in a logical way. One of Bendis' crowning moments.

Ultimate Spider-Man is a really good series, overall. There are a few low points (the Deadpool arc was awful!), but overall, it's great. Ultimate JJJ is just one of many good things in the series.

In some kinda spider-man-minus-spider-man spin-off, a series of one-shots looking at stuff like "where did Crusher Hogan get his gimmick?" or "what's it like for cops who have to work around Spider-Man's shenanigans?", I remember an issue that was JJJ at a therapist session. The only detail I can recall is that he firmly believed Spider-Man (among other super-fucks) was a jackass, and real heroes are either emergency personnel, armed service members, or astronauts (ie, like his son). It struck me as basically the thesis of Kingdom Come, retold with less myth and more cigar: superhumans working outside or above the system destabilize it, and make the world worse. I'd agree with him if super-folks were real, but since they exist only to entertain, their being self-involved drama-babies has almost no downside.

There's a scene with Jonah decrying the titular team, and Jessica Jones makes some snarky remark... which leads to Jonah giving a monologue about when he was very young, his hero was Bucky. Just like all his pals at school. They all wanted to be the sidekick, to be the kid hero saving the day, and they'd go around the neighbourhood pretending to be him, playing Captain America. Then Bucky died trying to stop a missile. And it wasn't so fun to play anymore.

There's a lot going on with Jonah, but to me his motivation has always been essentially this. He's lost sight of his principles, and Spider-man reminds him of that, and it hurts him more than anything else could.

And Wagner's run on Zorro apparently plays into the aging version of the fox in the book. The art is very pretty and the colouring does a great job of maintaining the feel of the Django movie. The single issues also came with soundtrack listings for songs that would fit, kind of like David Walker included/s with his Shaft comics. Shaft is also in that bundle and is great. Hell, it's almost worth it for the Cowan/Sienkiewicz covers, but Walker's script does a great job getting into Shaft's head, and Evely's art is excellent as well.
