There's nothing wrong with doing whatever you want to do in game, honestly- the best thing you can do in EVE is find people interested in approaching the game in a fashion that aligns with yours. Even in PL, despite being relatively space rich at the time, there were plenty of options to shoot red boxes, get a money moon, or play space trucker for alliance rewards.
