Yep!

Yeah my average 'turns left on time limit' was over 3. On Commander. I had plenty of time.

Maybe people are overusing overwatch/not making use of concealed ranger scouts?

The Avatar track is a non-issue when you realise how it works. In particular, when the aliens make progress, that progress is assigned to one of the existing facilities on the world map. You can see this in how many pips are beneath each facility. When you take out the facility, those progress pips are deducted from the avatar progress bar Just keep hitting the facilities with the most pips and you'll have no problems.

Did you somehow not have the soundtrack downloaded, because I think that was about 600MB. I haven't had anything except workshop updates and I figured there'd be at least one article about the first XCom2 patch coming out somewhere online.

The time limits are way less punishing once you get on your feet and have tools to work with. At the start of the game your tools are pretty restricted so its harder to do stuff. Hell if just the first guerrilla op had +2 to the turn limit I bet there would be less moaning.

Still it'll be funny if now this means that for XCOM 3 it'll be 'XCOM failed, again'. Good job player base.

I'm reminded of the Gamasutra postmortem of Bioshock 1. Their first outside play testing revealed that while internal responses to System Shock With An Underwater Skin were high, the normal playtesters were judging most of the stolen-from-SS stuff unfun. They had to do a 180 after that, leading to a game that was better than System Shock.

Haha, okay so, finished the game: The ending was kinda satisfying, i like the foreshadowing at something greater than the Elders and maybe some underwater action. What wasn't satisfying was that loving last mission where i fought pack after pack in a eternal crossfire due to, surprise surprise, another bug in this unoptimized turd. Generally i think the game is a fair bit of fun, but it needs A LOT of work on balance, game mechanics, bugs and performance before i ever touch it again. This release was rushed or just plain hosed up.

I think a large part of the negativity comes from people wanting the *~perfect campaign~* or that they just haven't realized that it's okay to lose soldiers and missions, and nothing bad is going to happen if you max out the doom counter and end the countdown at 1 hour to go.

In fairness, though, the first Firaxis XCOM sort of trained us that losing a mission was a BAD BAD THING, and you'd instantly permanently lose countries and push up the doom clock and be in big trouble. I'm not sure XCOM 2 really teaches returning players the difference. For example, that losing a retaliation mission or bugging out is basically just a money hit and inconvenience, instead of a permanent black mark and possible game ender.

I sort of wonder if the tutorial should have had a mission that opens normally but then just sends endless waves of nasty aliens and reinforcements and it's designed to be unwinnable so that Bradford can tell you abort and how it's okay to cut and run and your most important resources is your soldiers.

I got two of them during my Veteran game. As a small correction it they aren't downed UFOs, they are just landed. They end up being super-supply-raid missions. No matter how hard they are unless you're already swimming in resources they are well worth doing.

The game would be boring as poo poo without timers. Every time I get one of those missions that don't have a timer, it's literally easier than any mission in both XComs. You are so overpowered ability-wise that your only limitation is that you can only use it 1-2 times per timed mission. Without a timer, I'd be spamming all the double attacks+mech hacks in between every pod encounter.

Killzone is such an amazing skill. I had slightly opposite, I had a Killzone sniper who picked up Guardian. Sadly Guardian cannot proc off of Killzone, but it at least made her extra deadly during the ambushes where Killzone was either on recharge or the enemies weren't arranged correctly for it.

Or it just means that some people prefer not to deal with those mechanics for one reason or another. Using this logic the thing that Skyrim most needed in the base game is apparently for all characters to have huge dicks.

I'd be interested in a survey on totally new players to Xcom 2 versus ones that played Xcom 1. I'd be willing to bet that the new players in general have less of a problem than the Xcom 1 veterans. New players go in with an open mind and learn the tactics appropriate to the game. Old players try the stuff that worked before, refuse to adapt when it fails, and instead blame the balance of the game.

I only have about 10 hours logged in xcom 1 but barely even knew how flanking worked so I'm pretty new. I have zero complaints about xcom 2. I really don't even want to go back and finish the xcom 1 campaign because it's just a boring game compared to this.

I've been avoiding mods since they kinda lock your campaign into using that particular mod for the duration, and I don't feel any need to put tits on all the guns or whatever. I might mess with some of the timer stuff when I want to make a gimmick 6 sniper team or something.

I could actually see them adding extra turns on the timer for the first two difficulty. I think they could even add a bunch of turns, like +50% or even double them, and not really make the game particularly easier.

If we're already not hitting the turn cap then it doesn't matter if you have 3 turns left or 8 turns left. A 12 or 15 turn limit is still going to force players to move instead of overwatch crawl they'll just feel less anxious... which is fine for easier difficulty levels.

Honestly, I'd change the name of 'Recruit' difficulty to 'Soldier' or something so strategy babbys would feel less emasculated from playing it. :shobon:

Did you say the same thing about Valve when they fixed that elevator sequence in Ep2 so that the majority of people didn't die on it? Or Irrational, when SS2 had a patch that let you prevent your weapons breaking constantly?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not really expecting Firaxis to do the right thing, swallow their pride, and realize that "It'd be too easy" is an invalid justification for anything with regards to video games, I just find if interesting that there's a clear "These mechanics are not ones I want in my game" message through multiple channels, and I wonder how the folks who made the game will react to the newspaper to the nose.
