I want to do an alternate universe run of this mission now. BUT! A vote for 1D is a vote for fighting pirate `mechs, lets fight pirate `mechs. and we'll be wanting repairs for them, I'm assuming that's not covered in salvage rights so 2F and 2G. if the contract fails, I'm split between accepting the original offer and going with the comedy option of 1c, so I have to vote 4A PTN, if it's not pirate mechs, please count my vote as 1c instead.

Voting 1C 2E/2F 3A 4A Come on, it's fighting the clans on the side of demented (?) genius Amaris, who practically invited them to invade. It's going to be amazing and crazy and if a few mercs die that's a price I'm willing to pay. Velius fucked around with this message at 03:57 on Feb 11, 2016 |

1D House Sandoval's assault contract 2F Negotiate for better support, specifically on combat losses. It doesn't have to be great, but our employer sharing none of our financial liability is suicidal as a mercenary. Nothing else is as important. 3E Concede significantly on salvage rights in exchange for support on combat losses. We're hedging instead of going for a boom-or-bust contract. 4B If they wont' budge on sharing some liability for our losses, take a different job.

Part of me wants to see what one of the trap scenarios looks like, but I'd also like to see Jason survive to another vote, so here's to boring and sensible: 1D: Employer not untrustworthy, mission's relatively straightforward, the main concerns involve having the unit sacrificed. 2A: Up-front money will help if that happens. 2F: Get the Duke to cover at least some battle losses and the risk of being used up in a rear-guard action or all-out assault drops. 3E: Should be plenty of salvage and it's not likely to be prime anyway. 4B: Make a reputation elsewhere and you'll get work in Suns territory. Make a reputation in Suns territory for being both honest and an easy mark and you'll get badly paid work in Suns territory.

1D Everyone knows the funnest part of playing the Mercenaries game is claiming that sweet salvage. The fact that it is on one of the least sketchy contracts is only a bonus. 2A and 2F The contract is actually pretty poor if no salvage is claimed. Let's try and fix that with either better pay or less expenses for losses. 3C It was either the overhead or transportation costs, and the latter would go against what I previously said. 4A Still the best deal overall.

Amaris' offer has all the clear signs of expecting a big fight and the fact that he expects his mercs to fight the Clans would be transparent even if we didn't have any knowledge of what he's been up to in the ongoing plot. But we also know that he intends to make Andurien a bloodbath for the Clans going after him. So while his contract is saying in big bright neon letters, to people who can read the lines, that his offer is a risky gig (lmao an honest-to-goodness Mr. Johnson) and a bunch of you are probably going to die, it's probably going to be even worse for the people you'll be fighting. At least if you take it, you know you'll be facing the jaws of death on your own terms. The Star League scouting gig is probably just as bad, if not worse because you don't know what you'll stumble onto and ComStar wouldn't be wanting to scout that world if they didn't think something was up. The "Duchy's" raid will also lead to fighting Clanners but on their own turf. The DracSuns Invasion is the least mysterious but the employer will probably try to sacrifice the mercs when things go ploin-shaped. The loot's probably going to be the best if you can secure even partial Salvage rights. Even something as paltry as Employer's first pick for the bulk, keep 25% of the remainder would be a fantastic windfall with Clantech, even lovely leftovers would be worth a fortune on the open market, especially since the ability to produce advanced tech in the Sphere is still limited to Star League stuff except in the CapCon and NRWR. Also, dis astranagant is one of upcoming players and he wants to fight the Clans, so may as well give him the fight he's looking forward to most. Who knows, he might even survive...? Contract 1C: Andurien Retainer Demands 2B, 2E: Command Rights, Salvage Rights Concession 3A: baseline pay Negotiations Fall Through 4B: at least try to keep haggling, now

Contract: 1A Demands: 2F, 2G (it's a fairly generous contract, and fewer demands means happier employers for a brand-new company) Concessions: 3B (Having an outside commander will make sure we see more interesting plot as they send us to where the plot is) If Negotiations Fail: 4A (It's a decent offer, really; a little stingy, but for a new company that's only to be expected) I want to see still more Cappie toys. And destroy them.

Amaris is almost certainly looking for ablative armor for his own troops - it is an utterly suicidal gamble. Leave it for the idiot companies that can't read between the lines or the experienced ones that can actually afford to absorb the losses. Our new "Demon Hawks" leaders have seemed pretty reasonable and cautious so far, so picking literally anything else after their thoughts about it makes more sense. Contract 1D - Reasonably sensible employer, with a decent target for a new company. Davion has a relatively good reputation with mercenaries, often employing them, so deceptively hiding a suicide mission would be somewhat out-of-character. Demands to Negotiate for 2A - More upfront pay means potentially arriving with better equipment to begin with, which could help keep replacement costs lower in the first place. 2F - Always good to give your employer more incentive not to simply throw you away the moment things look tough, regardless of their overall history. Concession 3E - We probably don't exactly have a huge amount of transport capacity, so we could end up with far more salvage than we'd be capable of taking anyways. Negotiations Fall Through 4A - The initial terms are pretty good to begin with. Anything else is just gravy.

Yeah looking over these offers I have no idea why anyone with the money to start an independent Mech mercenary company wouldn't just immediately cash out and retire to a life of luxury instead of risking death and ruin. A cynical recap of the offers so far: 1. Comstar's sending you poking into what is undoubtedly some serious poo poo behind enemy lines with no intention of supporting you in any way or even acknowledging your connection if it turns out to be more dangerous than they anticipated. I'm sure being taken POW by the Cappellans will work out just fine. 2. Take your unproven mecenary company on a shakedown run by attacking the Clans in their own territory. 3. Be meat for the grinder in Amaris's pitched battle against a Clan invasion. 4. Be meat for the grinder in a frontal assault where your commander/employer has no incentive to preserve your unit. 1-3 are obviously going to involve being in over your head but at least your employer has a vested interest in your success. 4 is the closest to a fair contract except for the part where all you are needed to do is catch gauss slugs for someone's real soldiery.

Going with the Outworlds invasion is the safest bet and if I were a player in a merc campaign it's the one I'd have picked, I just wanted to give dis astranagant the fight he's looking for. It's also a chance to get stuck in with another one of the running major plotlines, and while there's nothing wrong with so-called brush wars, I feel taking a couple months to play out a battle in the subjugation of a periphery state to secure a border for a bigger front isn't quite as dramatic for the thread. I'm thinking let's give the players a MW2:Mercs moment and let these dumb mercenaries get a piece of history or die trying.

1A 2F, 2G 3G 4A Voting extra-fluffy on this one. We all know what new toys the Cappies are playing with, but Jason and Duncan most definitely do not. A shakedown mission, with the ability to say 'gently caress it, we're out' that an independent command gives, sounds like just what the doctor ordered, since half of our pilots are implied to be kinda dogshit. Terms seem more than fair as-is, too.

Alright, I think I've made up my mind. I just have to see the NRWR vs Clan showdown first hand. Awesome fight outweighs somewhat more sensible contract. Contract: C Andurien Retainer Demands to Negotiate For: Lets go for A Pay and F Support. I don't think they're going to back down on the salvage concessions, as they've probably got grand plans for that poo poo. 13 million for a 2 year stint is kinda crappy over that period of time, and if we can negotiate some actual support out of them, maybe the NRWR will see us as less expendable than the other mercs. One Concession: D Transportation Costs It's a two year tour, we can afford to catch a ride there if they're willing to help us out once we actually get there. If Negotiations Fail: B Negotiate another deal (preferably D at that point).

1) Which contract to pursue 1D) House Sandoval Planetary Assault I was tempted by the Star League Recon, because you can guarantee it could get interesting, but I want to see what's happening in other parts of the Inner Sphere, rather than looking at the cappies. 2) Two demands to negotiate for 2B) Command Rights 2F) Support I know that command rights would be difficult, and probably won't fly, but gently caress it, why not. 3) One concession to make, if necessary 3D) Transportation Costs gently caress it, we've apparently got a scrounger already, maybe he can get us a ride in return for us offering "escort" to whatever trader hauls us out there. 4) What to do if negotiations fall through 4A) Take the original offer Because it's already kind of reasonable for what it is. My only thought is: This is a Sandoval - does anyone else wonder if he's going to start a small war with the Drac part of the new Suns?

Going for C because this Amaris fellow is a fine upstanding guy who's plan probably isn't "get mercenaries killed". I imagine he'll try to keep them alive as long as possible so he can get use out of them as long as possible. Probably won't be very sad if they do end up dead, but I think that's not the going to be his goal from the start. As for the details: 1C 2E and 2B, Salvage being extreme priority on account of probably fighting clan mechs and command authority being extremely unlikely on account of the whole thing being a garrison job that kind of requires central control over the forces involved. Every other negotiable option is already super generous though so... 3A If the Hawks can get salvage rights, a cut in upfront pay would be easy to take 4A Because come on - it's a first row seat to a Clan Crusade 2 vs Secret Empire with Manei Domini mechs showdown and you get paid for it!

What they should negotiate for if they decide on the rimworlds contract is to be temporarily incorporated in the rimworlds military with some level of command rights and support. A way to say "we know what you expect and we'd participate if you can guarantee we won't be cannon fodder." The rimworlders need help so maybe they will accept?
