How do you deal with armored enemies? I'm using 2 granadiers one specializating in explosives, and the other on shooting and cant imagine how much harder it would be to deal with armor without that.

Hmm, so the bug that corrupts every save you have is caused by loading a mid-mission save with chrysalids. Good to know!

Even then by that stage in the game lots of enemies have shredding capabilities and/or deal enough damage to make it negligible. It needs a pretty substantial buff to be competitive IMO.

Also the explosives damage reduction is a joke. It's not the grenade that does you in, it's the fact that you no longer have any cover.

Its about ten pages back, but I have to comment on this.

I wanted this mod. But then I saw a big bolded MUST HAVE RESISTANCE WARRIOR DLC and I thought, "well gently caress you, too".

Firaxis *better* put that DLC out as a purchasable addon at some point.

I'd rather the default pod size was 4 or 5 but the game was set up such that it was effectively impossible to activate pods by accident. Maybe the second one automatically airdrops in X turns after the first is activated, maybe you can always see pod LOS as red squares on the map even in fog of war, whatever. I hate losing soldiers because I looked through the wrong window.

I'm guessing you never played the original xcom, where being gunned down by an alien you couldn't even see was normal and expected.

That would be completely fine, because if aliens could take turns outside of your line of sight by default, and could see farther than you by default, we could expect the rest of the game (their stats, their numbers, your stats, whatever) to be balanced around it such that the game was still winnable. It's just asinine that, in the current formulation, map awareness (unless achieved through certain special abilities) is bad, advancing on the enemy is bad, and aggressive flanking is bad. It's like playing a game of Starcraft in which enemy buildings can only make units when you're watching them.

Like all Xcom games, crank the difficulty and be ready to micromanage your soldiers and it's pretty alright. Easily the best of the XCOM spinoffs, though that's absolutely not saying much.

Hacking penalties are awesome idk what people are talking about. Reveal squad location to an enemy pack? Sweet I set all my guys to overwatch and get to kill a pack for free. Call down enemy reinforcements? Sweet, put all my guys on overwatch and get some free exp. And the rewards you can get are absolutely insane. Intel? That translates into literally any other thing in the game through the black market. Half scanning time? Holy gently caress is that insanely powerful. +20 hacking? Just keep the intel train coming.

All the battle scanner, or scanning protocol, or leaving one of your guys in stealth, or whatever does is confirm for you what you already know: that moving into unexplored territory while fighting is bad, because it frees your enemies from their time prisons. It's good that the game contains (limited, resource-consuming) tools which mitigate the effects of its bad underlying rules, but those underlying rules are still bad.

If only there was some sort...concealment mechanic. Some way to enter a pods sight range without triggering them. Maybe even a class with skills dedicated to serving as a scout for your squad, so you can set up those flanks safely.

Alas, this is only in the realm of fantasy.

You use the scanner when you can't see enemies. Then you can, and know where to move. Then you kill them. I don't even bother with concealment, it's too slow.

If your problem is that when moving forward to kill you keep tripping other pods, then use the Scanning Protocol, or keep within the range of your furthest unit. Enemies will still patrol or come to you if you gently caress up a hack or an enemy gets away.

^^ Please send feedback to beefstache911@hotmail.com, this is not a joke that 'stache is the real deal. Serious assessments only. ^^

So far the adventures of the Green Bay Packers fighting the alien hordes has only seen the gruesome death of the starting center corey linsley who got unluckily pounded by a disoriented muton while behind full cover and then constricted later in the map. This is the same retaliation map where I finally had a skull jacker available but my skull jacker got knocked unconscious by a stun soldier just as he was in range to do the skull jacking, and also the level where I activated a pod with a viper a advent commander, and a stun lancer in the same turn I activated a faceless. Nobody got home unscathed. Their adventure continues tonight where I try to get my favorite team killed horribly.

And to answer your immediate question: Yes, I am the kind of weirdo who created about 15 of GB Packers in the character pool and started a campaign just for them. :colbert: I'm considering adding some other NFL all stars for more troops because I'm actually running out.

I'm actually pretty proud of myself because I abandoned my first campaign where I was save scumming everything, but so far in about 9-10 missions I've only save scummed the skull jacking thing because I had heard rumors and wanted to see what happened. In retrospect I'm super happy I didn't skull jack during that abomination of a retaliation mission because I bet everyone would have died.

Yes, you learn where to move: not forward, because it would wake them up. Then you realize you don't need to spend the money, inventory space, and time required to use a scanner, and can just not move forward either way. Because moving forward is bad, and revealing territory is bad, because it lets the enemy attack you when they otherwise couldn't.
