He has been banned from television for 15 years. He tried for years to make a show about notorious fraud Ted Serios and nobody would give him a chance. X-Files is his one thing that anybody wanted.

The real question is, is X-Files worth continuing if Chris Carter is going to continue writing half the episodes (which he probably is). I would say yes, barely.

I could swear I saw a 9/11 clip on one of the TVs at the end. And I don't know what the gently caress I just watched. Does Mulder do drugs in the old ones? He seemed way too upbeat about convincing that girl to get him drugs. The end basically boiled down to "Trip balls and love each other." Which isn't terrible life advice, but why is this in my X-Files?

I love Gillian Anderson but she and Carter and combining forces to gently caress these episodes up. Maybe these lines are just impossible to pull off, but she's got no umph in her delivery at all. Duchovney isn't completely pulling it off either but he's not as distracting as Andersons droll, emotionless tone. I'm specifically talking about the two Carter episodes here, magically Anderson has way more energy in the others. I guess the blame goes mostly to Carter.

A bad episode. These 6 episodes are like a condensed full season of X-files. Some gold, some run of the mill and some utter dross. And how many times have Mulder been hopped up on something during the series? They had doped up his apartment buildings water supply with acid, then it was some other ergot based chemical in one episode.

It was a mistake, you could argue a predictable one, to try to include both MotW and myth-arc in a 6-episode miniseries. It needed to be all or nothing, either a complete, six episode myth-arc story, or just drop that completely and do a more anthology style MotW series. There was just no way to do anything meaningful with the established mythology in two or three episodes, which is a problem Carter himself caused but doesn't seem to recognize.

There's really no excuse for these six episodes not to be polished up to a perfect shine, but then again, that was also true of the movies and look how those turned out.

Compare it to say, the Arrested Development revival season, and there's a major difference in the love and effort you can feel when you watch one versus the other. Even if you didn't like that season of Arrested Development you can see how its bursting at the seams with jokes, maybe even moreso than the original series, and how they used this extra writing time to make the different stories connect in insane ways they maybe couldn't have in a more typical production schedule.

Well they tried shaking it up with Robert Patrick and what's-her-face and folks hated that, so I can't exactly blame them for wanting to play this Stark Trek 09/Force Awakens/Jurassic World style. Give the people more of what they know and like. It would be odd to have them in a parallel series though, especially if they intend to keep Mulder and Scully going. I'll be interested in seeing how that shakes out in any case.

It wouldn't really be The X-Files without tone-deaf social commentary and unfortunate stereotypes. That's one of the fun parts about the X-Files Files - looking back and seeing just how naively offensive some of the episodes were, even for their time. I'm actually a bit surprised that they didn't explicitly make a link with 9/11 and the first episode of The Lone Gunmen at some point. Tad already called it a practice run for the invasion, I kind of wonder if they will link it up in the universe.

Another issue I have plotwise is that you'd think with only a 6 episode run, they'd make all of them actually X-Files. A conventional crime solved in an unconventional way isn't really what they do or have ever done. I'm all for new directions in a series revival, but that's not really a new direction. It's the opposite; the same old typical crime show direction except with a drug trippy twist.
