There's been a great deskilling of the American labor force. It actually reminds me a bit of the American Indians who lost their traditional ways of life and descended into addiction, poverty and despair. Though likely would on the degree. Things like loving around with South American countries to keep banana prices low is some serious bullshit, for example. You take care of your own first, so that you have the capability to take care of others when needed. You don't have to be a Master tradesman to qualify for union membership in the first place. Most trades certainly have a place for apprentices, and journeymen. Journeymen also make very good pay after putting in the years and experience, so even if Master certifications are limited in your field it's still lucrative work.

That's how all of the trades work, so I don't know what kind of point you're trying to make. If you want there to be mandatory licensing to pick fruit or roof shingles, then maybe you should organize laborers and agitate for favorable regulations.

Blame the rich assholes who pay them so little and work them half to death. They're the real problem. If you want to get rid of illegal immigration, just enforce the law on the demand side. Trying to round up people and their families is inhumane and like bailing water with a seive.
