Uncle Boogeyman posted:The Asphyx is the #1 movie I wanted to recommend but it's no longer in netflix Its a weird one. I recommend "The Devil Bat" with Bela Lugosi. Its director did a bunch of Laurel and Hardy movies. You can really tell. A cold cream chemist gets shafted by a low payout for his product. So like many cosmetic designers he makes giant bats that kill people who wear a cologne he taught them to hate. The bats' scream has to be the source of Futurama's Fry scream. Prime got it and literal thousands of movies as bad or worse.

I've got a soft spot for that movie since I saw it when I was a kid in theaters and thought is was amazing. I think it's a weird movie because it was obviously going for the Jurassic park crowd but was still pretty violent and R Rated m, despite everything else being chopped down to PG-13 in that era. It's corny as hell though.

The recent criticisms of Bone Tomahawk made me finally watch it and although I agree with some of the critisisms (it was at least 15-20 minutes too long), I still liked it. Absolutely worth watching.

apart from Legend of Hell House, which is fuckin' awesome, I think the only one I'd maybe go to bat for as capital-G Great is Black Death, and I'd have to rewatch it first.

I was going to say "what's so special about The Relic other than it being set in the Field Museum" but I don't remember the movie using the setting all that well. You can tell some of the shots are in a real museum and not a set, and it's extra fun if you've ever visited, but obviously you can't shoot a lot of crazy stunts among the exhibits. It probably is most interesting from a 'how on Earth did anyone agree to film a B monster flick in a real museum' angle. But I'm also down on the movie for the crap 90s CG monster effects. I love me some creature-features, but lovely stiff CG does nothing for me compared to the charm of a dude in a suit or some latex puppet.

The museum setting works a lot better in the book. You really get the feeling that its a little world of its own, which is what makes the monster scary. The place is so huge but the monster could be anywhere, especially once the poo poo hits the fan and its really on the hunt.

I went on a binge for found footage flicks lately. Not because I can't get enough of lovely stories and lovely cameramen, but I wanted to understand why people keep making them. (long story.) I can recommend Tunnels. Australian and fun as all get out. That one was good. It was fun and decent and I didn't spend much time shouting at the tv. Another fun movie, but not FF, was Beneath. I did not expect to like it, but I did.

Also for horror films on Netflix I'd be remiss if I didn't remind people that Wyrmwood is still on there. Mad Max vs. Zombies and a mad doctor that binges on soft rock from the 70s. It is so Australian it's staggering.

If anyone subscribes to MUBI and a 3 hour and 15 minute fake documentary about the 92 people whose last name begins with the letters 'FALL' who are listed in a directory of people affected by the VUE (Violent Unknown Event) and also about birds sounds good to you, I'd definitely recommend watching The Falls - you've got 30 days until it leaves MUBI.

Holy gently caress. Re-watch Atonement. You'll be all hey there's what's his name and oh there's gobbledyfuck. I think Keira Knightley was the only star power when it came out but like 90% of the cast has broken out since then.

If anybody's jonesing for some dumb Hong Kong action cinema I finally got around to watching Hard Boiled again and goddamn is it still good. The full movie's on youtube. Also there's a fantastic Korean action movie called The Man From Nowhere on netflix. It's got my favorite Korean actor (Won Bin) and it's actually got a pretty ok plot about a retired spec ops dude becoming attached to an orphan girl and trying to rescue her from child slavery. It was Korea's highest grossing movie of 2010 so if you can't find it on netflix I'm sure it's somewhere else. HOTLANTA MAN fucked around with this message at 08:17 on Feb 21, 2016 |

Blue is the Warmest Color leaves Netflix streaming in a few days so I watched it. It's male gazey as gently caress, especially when it comes to its ideas bout how women have sex with each other, and the director clearly thinks he's making a different movie than the one he made, but if you can live with that it's a really good romance movie.
