Baby you can shout at me,
But you can't need my eyes.

quote:

INDEPENDENT John Madigan says he has crossbench support as he calls for a Senate inquiry in the wake of the AFL’s Essendon supplements saga.

The Victorian senator is pushing for the Senate to look into Australia’s anti-doping system and what it means for Australian sport.

Madigan said in a Wednesday media release the motion was co-sponsored by fellow senators Glenn Lazarus, Nick Xenophon, Dio Wang, Jacqui Lambie, Ricky Muir, Bob Day and David Leyonhjelm.

Last month, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld a WADA appeal that resulted in the banning of 34 current and past Essendon players.

Senate crossbenchers John Madigan and Nick Xenophon have plenty of sway with the government as the deciding votes in the chamber.
Their doping cases stem from the Bombers’ calamitous 2011-12 supplements program.

The players will challenge the CAS verdict in the Swiss Federal Supreme Court.

But even if their appeal is successful, the 17 players still in the AFL are not likely to play again this season.

“Once again, the crossbench is on the front foot on a key issue,” Madigan said.

“There are serious questions hanging over the Essendon saga about Australia’s sports anti-doping regime, its effectiveness and ability to properly police and prosecute breaches.

“Additionally there are questions here about the lawful direction of employees and the obligation of employers to provide a safe workplace environment.”

The motion calls for the Senate’s education and employment references committee to look at the ramifications of Australian participation in the international anti-doping framework.

I guess Madigan is worried about the group ticket changes and wants to drum up support from the StandByHird crowd.

Nah, xylo was saying that the results weren't even close, so any contest would be for 2/3/4th place, so contests wont be likely.

I don't know how exactly it would factor, but I know establishment Republicans really do not want Trump to be their representative. Don't expect them to let that happen. He's also polling lower than both Clinton and Sanders routinely, and while that could easily change Trump's also extremely hateable.

I wouldn't say it's impossible that he could get the nomination and win the election, but the odds are against him more than they seem. Remember, he's not Reagan. Reagan could seem kind and charismatic; Trump can't not be a total fucknut.

Nah, it's still pretty funny. The world is hosed anyway, we might as well laugh at some buffoonish billionaire running the largest economy on earth into the ground before we go out.

Clinton's been around Washington for so long that she's probably up to her eyeballs in some scandal just waiting to be exposed, and when that happens Trump will cruise to victory.

The good-ish news is that if he loses the GOP is gong to be hosed for decades because of the huge schism between the angry rednecks and evangelicals who support the Tea Party, and the establishment.

It is the opposite.

If Hillary get the nomination, there is a reasonable chance Trump could win. But it would likely be a win for Sanders if he got the nomination. If there is one person Republicans hate more than Obama, it is Hillary. She is embroiled in a number of "scandals" and voters view her as dishonest. Whereas Sanders polls surprisingly well in conservative states, and is a far less polarising politician.

I'm worried she won't even need a huge scandal to come up to sink her. She has insanely bad favourability ratings - you wouldn't know it based on the caucus results but she has net 13% unfavourability, 7% undecided - and that's before the GOP kick the propaganda machine into full gear.

you may recall another Clinton in politics recently

Also it's not that Sanders is pro-gun, it's that his economic message resonates with voters both left and right. It's an insider truism that "Socialism" is the great devil in US politics but it's not holding up in practice.

Lol. Trump could crush Hillary because he could make up lies about her past or even some truth and the public already has trust issues with her.

A big mouth is literally super effective against a shadey Clinton and I don't think minority voters would come out en masse for her either so I think it's a closer match up than polling implies.

Clinton is pretty unpopular too, it would only take a poorly timed scandal (and it appears there are potentially plenty of those waiting in the wings) to derail her general election campaign and allow Trump to Bradbury his way to the Whitehouse.

If Cruz was found dead on the Senate floor there would be 99 suspects and no witnesses.

He has built up his power base by campaigning against other Republicans for being insufficiently conservative, to the point of ousting incumbents and torpedoing various bills so that he could grandstand. The establishment has (arguably) taken the view that it can survive losing with Trump, but validating Cruz' strategy would be worse for them in the long run.

Plus everyone that meets him dislikes him on a personal level.
