I don't see how it's confusing: It's Pokemon Zun and Pokemon Zoon. The setting is the Pokemon version of Mexico and you are on the run from the Aztec deity pokemons with your baby Zygarde who then grows to become a fearless monster that can go head to head against those two Aztec mons. Or so my uncle at Game Freak told me.

It's been so long without Z and we're seeing what is likely to be a Gen 7 reveal already...I'm wondering if they just decided to skip Z altogether. That would be kind of disappointing because the only thing X and Y really lacked was a solid ingame endgame, and usually their third release of the same gen focuses a lot more on that stuff since the core game is already done.

After all the Zygarde advertising, they absolutely need to put out a Z, like you said. Still, releasing it this close to Gen VII would probably be a mistake. Sun and Moon are probably mid-to-late 2017 at the earliest.
