Many years ago (like, before SF4 was even out) a very autistic dude used to come to our meetups for 3S/CVS2/Jojos and his mother would phone the LAN cafe we were in every week and ask us to walk him a few doors up the street to the bus stop and make sure he got on the bus. I spent a lot of my late teens standing about in the rain with a bunch of those old heavy SF2 Anniversary sticks on my back listening to someone tell me about variants of chess moves and EV/IV values in Pokemon. After SF4 came out he ended up getting bopped out of a tournament by a textbook online Blanka player and he was so distraught that he ran out of the venue and people had to walk around the city looking for him for a few hours. He was actually a cool guy despite all this but yeeeeeeah there are definitely some unusual fellas in every video game scene, the FGC is definitely no more or less 'normal'.

Well after a long hard look at my fighting style. I realised I had some massive gaps in my game plan. Mainly terrible footsies. I would just only attack if they were in range, hence why I was always getting beaten by Karin's button. After testing out Laura's pokes and footsies tool and actively trying to use them. It completely changed my fighting change against my Nemesis Karin. So much so I have gone undefeated today against this player who bodied me 0-8 last night. Might be luck or might be improvements, but I felt it was a safer game for me and I had more control of the fight. I now understand better why people always say you need to have a solid footsies game, then build up on there. Going into fights by just attacking in range can get you stuffed quite alot.

How do I defeat flowchart ken (or Ryu) who throws a lot? I feel like he is the end boss of scrub tier matchmaking. Especially with someone like Chun who doesn't have a lot of gimmicks or a non-ex invincible reversal I think I need to never miss my quick rises and get better at punishing blocked/whiffed dps and sweeps. It doesn't matter if they are throwing hadokens/shoryus/sweeps out like a maniac if I can't punish them for it. My mid range footsie game also gets discombobulated if they are decent at using fireballs as a midrange poke

Real Soviet Muscle Power is thoroughly baller in this game. Comboing into super from Muscle Burst will never not be amazing, I don't know if his running grab is actually useful for anything at all, air grab is such a killer though, his v-trigger is good, and to be honest the fact that he doesn't have Green Hand or any other random tool to help him advance makes him play and feel exactly like he should, like a tower of sweaty bearwrastlin muscle slowly poking his way toward you and never stopping. I don't know if he is great but he is good and crazy fun and teaches you good fundamentals, go play CYCLOOOOONE people Also I find doing 360's is much easier with a d-pad than with a stick once you get the motion down. Speaking of Good, what's the tier list for this game???!? I wan to win Daigo Wong at char select. Bisse fucked around with this message at 19:17 on Feb 25, 2016 |

Capcom really doesn't have a reputation of kneejerk balance changes like Netherrealm and they have way more to worry about right now in terms of adding actual features and online stability. And as others have said, a balance patch three weeks in is kind of dumb. At least wait a few months and see how the tournament majors shake out.

It's pretty cool, the SFV tournament they ran was pretty basic, but a lot of fun because everyone was a little tipsy and already had favourite players picked out because of the earlier Snes Mario Kart tournament. Nobody's going to do anything at Evo, but everyone enjoys what they're doing. We chatted to the guys running it as we were set to leave after having a few drinks and playing some SF. My friends and I were accounted as decent Melee players back in the day (I managed to beat the UK champ in something like 2007) so we asked after it. Apparently they had chosen to run Smash for a while, especially after the Wii U version came out. Eventually they stopped because it emerged that all the Smash players showing up actually never bought any drinks and in fact didn't really seem to understand the "club" part of gaming club night. So they would routinely show up, ruin everyone, wave their dicks in a final and then refuse the prize, which was a pint on the house, because it might interfere with their precious reaction times. Seriously gently caress the Smash community.

Golem II posted:I'm not gonna post things anymore. lovely FANG POST If you're having trouble with Laura, you really probably don't want to play Fang. He's probably more difficult on execution if you're at all new to fighting games (just because worrying about charges or accidental charge moves when opponents cross you up, etc). If you insist, there are a few things to know: He doesn't do massive damage in combos, but can slowly do a little over time. Forward jumps and HK will always face backwards, so this is babby's first cross-up but if you throw it out early your opponent can just walk backwards and you'll never hit them and be a free punish. As a general rule, jump from somewhat ambiguous (or flexible) distances, and use HP if you're not crossing, HK if you're crossing. Charge back (for whichever appropriate distance) while jumping, land, combo into HP xx Sotoja Sotoja is his drill, Nishikyu is his projectiles, and Ryobenda is that ground smoke. All three of these can neutralize a non-EX fireball. Sotoja is unsafe on block up close. AT max range, I think it's safe, but I'm not clear if that's purely because of range (ie, who can punish that far) or because it's hitting on later active frames. His v-skill doesn't interact with things like a normal projectile, so it doesn't cause any sort of stun or direct damage and can't be neutralized other than avoidance. His number of combos basically double if you get a counter-hit though. If you get a hard knockdown, you can set up some annoying stuff with Nishikyu where if you get a hit before it hits, it will enable some extra damage/extended combos (ie, normal hits, projectile hits, then you do a normal combo). Oddly, he can EX command dash (srk motion motion + kick) out of his projectile's recovery. Non-ex command dashes can be hit OR grabbed. Birdie's horizontal chain grab thing seems to hit this for...reasons, even though it's visibly below it. Basics are here on HonzoGonzo's youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WndPY-DXhgQ

Smash players are locusts in every tournament ive been to Those fuckers travel anywhere at anytime for anything. Our local group added it on to a tournament like a week before it went out, only on facebook groups. Normally there's like 100-120 people for sf and anime games, that day over 300 people came, and by god it reeked in that room. It was at a cheap as gently caress hotel and they split the ballroom with partitions. The other half was a huge mexican wedding and they both shared the same hallway, it was cool and fun to see the mother of a bride dressed like she was going to the latino choice awards gag at the smell of a herd of unwashed 19 year olds wearing gamecube controllers around their necks like they were flava flav while they drag around a 30" hello kitty crt tv to wave dash or w/e it is they do Also all the smash tvs bundled together by spilled soda-stained surge protectors kept popping the breakers, killing the power to us and the wedding, along with the capcom jamma cabinet some nerd dad brought up in the back of his pickup and plugged in to the hallway in case any of the mexican wedding guests wanted to throw down some third strike on this dude's smoke-yellowed candy cab Its really hosed up now that i think about it
