Lime Tonics posted:Yeah, not only that though, the cockpit was supposed to use space magic to make the whole thing transparent, with a 3d floating display only. Guess what happened to that idea? No, the crap cockpit was supposed to use space magic to make it appear like it was transparent *and* rotate all over to reduce the G-Forces during tight turns. So your pilot could be upside down but the you would still be looking forward in your ship. Which is actually kind of neat. I bet they wanted to fake it with a material that is opaque one way and transparent the other. The problem is that a) the cry-engine cannot do this trick, you cannot have a material like that is opaque one way and b) even if there was one the people outside the ship would see that the pilots are not actually rotating (because otherwise it would be barf-city for the players). So they would have to actually implement an opaque cockpit with a 360-degree display on the inside and that's too much work! Instead now it has a transparent cockpit which means that the pilot won't be able to rotate (it will rotate slightly up or down just to pretend it does) without vomiting or the rest of the ship blocking all the visibility. BTW, the display tech would be really good for having fun turrets so you can kiss their rear end good-bye too. They also made the ship way larger (to accommodate the second pilot) before realizing they couldn't do it but didn't go back to the original size after cutting the second seat at the last possible minute.

I bet a lot of the "I will feel grief" posters secretly really want to be griefed - or better still 'griefed' - so they get to smugly type things like "Enjoy your ban." and get their org to mass report them/complain to their pocket GM while jerking themselves raw over the thought of the hammer being brought down on another evil goonie. Then brag about it on the forums about how special they are, valiantly defending the 'Verse against the 90% griefer population or whatever the gently caress they believe. If everything is griefing, that means you're always the good guy no matter what you yourself do to other players in or out of game, right? Believe me, there's nothing new or original about these impotent crybabies. It's quite an interesting viewpoint actually, because according to Reddit, goons are the only griefers in existence, and they won't be playing the game in the first place because they're butthurt the game is engineered from the ground up to make griefing impossible, or something. I guess that can only mean those 1 million Schroedinger's griefers are all Derek Smart multiboxing. I love how shitizens tie themselves in logical knots over everything. The reason the rabid, hateful fanbase doesn't bother me as much as the developers themselves do is because I was honestly already used to their kind. They exist for basically every online game community, though admittedly not in the same concentration as in SC. Meanwhile, I've never seen a game developer quite so blatantly and unrepentantly stringing people along before.

That's why when you clip into the inside of a spaceship dues to physics bugs, it's see-through on the inside. All 3d engines do this as a way to save work, they only draw the outside of the polys. So if you just made the rib with one-sided polys and just didn't have a back side it would do just that. The problem is it looks like poo poo in practice because there would be little artifacts on poly edges and stuff. The dumb thing is that as a 2-seat cockpit the center rib makes much more sense, since the seats could be on either side.

They may need to change up that plan unless they don't mind burning some decent bucks. Although maybe they're planning to reduce the burn further? On that note... Anybody wonder if the reason they've been plugging David Ladyman and Ryan Archer's Kickstarter repeatedly on RtV is because they're cutting Austin down more and they're trying to help out some of the old guard on the way out? I'm not trying to start a rumor and I hope that's not the case because they both seem like nice guys. I'm just speculating. It was strange though when Batgirl mentioned Ladyman fondly in the last episode and Sandi seemed to skirt him. It seems like the Austin team is the most vulnerable-- and artists and writers the most vulnerable of jobs there. They have plenty in LA now. Just a theory-- admittedly grim.

G0RF posted:On that note... Anybody wonder if the reason they've been plugging David Ladyman and Ryan Archer's Kickstarter repeatedly on RtV is because they're cutting Austin down more and they're trying to help out some of the old guard on the way out? Or they're plugging it because it will be finished long before SC and their backers will have something else to distract them? Or they're doing it to get their backers used to disappointment? (Ladyman & Archer are probably perfectly nice guys, but a forgotten board game from 30 years ago was probably forgotten for a reason. There were a lot of really bad board games in the 80s before the euro revolution.)
