This was always going to be Bernie's problem, but the fact that he got this far and pushed Clinton as far as he did is nothing short of amazing and his supporters should feel proud of that. Meanwhile, the big question about the Clinton campaign a year ago was whether she could turn out the Obama coalition of minority support in the general election, or if they'd stay home and we'd see a turnout mix that looked more like 2004 than 2008. Seems like she's answering that question, which is fantastic news for the Democratic party.

i think that the models suggesting that generations don't tend to change their political orientation from the start to the end of their voting lifetimes but that they do increase in turnout are positive for democratic socialism or whatever we wanna call it in the long run, say over the next few decades it won't be a revolution and it won't change the basic problems with the system that turn so many people off of politics, though, i don't think. many of those people will remain outside the voting public

According to the first round of exit polling, this is the first state Bernie has lost the under 35k demographic and won the over 100k demographic, lol. That means his support is almost entirely white and he is in for a huge spanking.

Another point is that this is very good news for the African American community. Hillary and the media are rightly going to believe that she owes them a debt for putting her campaign back on track and politicians do work to pay back those debts. Also means that she'll keep putting the racial reforms she's been talking about as a key part of her campaign and agenda.

I don't think the meltdown will be that bad. It's been a long time coming, nobody but the most ardent supporters would think he could pull off an upset. However, I do expect more than a few "why don't black people vote for Bernie, he supports them?" posts.

Pretty much, if you wanna step back from the Hot Goon Takes about how basically the DNC is gonna be dead in a year thanks to this, this is actually an amazing looking election because not only do we have Sanders hopefully energizing people to get active in lower levels, but this is a very solid display that Clinton can get the Obama coalition active it seems. The DNC is in a fantastic spot going into this, and likely against an election against loving Trump.

I agree the campaign finance reform is important, but I find it pretty funny that when it comes time for the general election you're going to want as much money as possible against a literal billionaire and it can't all come from small donors

Honestly if the southern firewall wins the nom for Hillary, it won't matter in the general if white liberals in the north avoid voting for her, since our crappy all or nothing electoral college means the south will be red as it always is since LBJ, and she needs to carry swing states that are very white to win the map.

All of the polling so far has shown that a vast majority of Democratic primary voters would be happy to vote for either candidate in the general election, and certainly would considering the likely alternative. There are always a small but vocal group of partisan holdouts, like the PUMA crew, but they're not a significant part of the vote. Even if only 50% of the new Democrats Bernie brought in vote for Clinton in the general, that's still a pile of new Democrats who didn't vote in 2012, a year in which the Democrats won.
