Like I previously posted, I'm really enjoying FE Fates, but I'm trying to take my time with it so I don't get completely burned out playing it. I need some good non-RPG suggestions. I know people were heavy on Mario Golf a while back, also thinking about Mega Man Legacy Collection, Rune Factory 4 (Harvest Moon is more of a life sim than an RPG imo), maybe Smash (though I have no friends, so that'd be pretty boring pretty quickly), Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon? Help me spend money, goons.

All of those are solid choices. I'd probably recommend Smash or Mario Golf first since I think they'd complement a long rear end narrative driven RPG the best.

I haven't played Fire Emblem since the Super Nintendo, back when things were simpler... Which should I start with? e: I ask because my friend told me Fire Emblem cribbed Dating Sims, Anime Porn, and Pokemon style Dual-Versions. So everything is different and confusing.

okay friends, bae lost my 3DS original and will either buy me a new 3DS XL or donate towards a New 3DS XL (urrggh). I can't decide which to get. Also I do want to be able to use homebrew (no, not for piracy) but not sure if either 3DS or N3DS will be on old enough firmware if I get them new, any way to check?
|
# ? Feb 29, 2016 14:38 |

If you're buying a 3DS now, you may as well get a New 3DS for the better hardware, it does help a little (and if you're planning on playing Hyrule Warriors Legends, it's basically n3DS exclusive even if it doesn't say so on the box). Homebrew works on everything bar 10.6 and it's very unlikely that a 3DS you buy now will be on the firmware that came out last week, so it should work on a newly-bought console. There's no way to check, though. Lemon-Lime fucked around with this message at 15:56 on Feb 29, 2016 |

Homebrew still technically works on 10.6, you're just way more limited in your options for an entrypoint.

Yeah, if you have OoT you can still get homebrew on 10.6, but the super easy entry point (browserhax) is shut. Also whoops, noticed that my post said the opposite of what I wanted it to say.

I thought BROWSERHAX still worked, it's just you can't do crazy root-level poo poo to the system anymore, so no more rxTools and whatever.

Anything you buy should be able to run homebrew. Even the Pokemon N3DS shipped with 10.2 iirc.

Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars is 7.50 in the 3DS shop. For a 3DS launch title it's a pretty good Fire Emblem type RTS game. Definitely worth the cash.

Well my coworker wanted to sell his barely-used 2DS and the price was right so I picked it up. Daylight savings is ending which, in my particular job, means I'm about to have insane amounts of overtime for the next few months so it'll be nice having a system I can come home to and just play simple, fun games on that I can enjoy in the 30 minutes of free time I'll have at night. Normally I pop in and ask a bunch of recommendations but I pretty much know exactly what games I want to own already: Theatrhythm CC, Smash Bros, Mario 3D Land, Shovel Knight, Megaman Collection. Other than that I think I'll mostly be grabbing virtual console stuff. Man I wish they had SNES games on the 2/3DS. Are there any cool platformers/simple fun games coming out soon?

As in a version that has all three versions of the game compiled together? That exists. It's called Fire Emblem Fates Special Edition.
