Are we sure that is actually Cruz's face and that he isn't wearing one of those rubber Nixon masks?

Ted Cruz is a wax statue of Nixon that was brought to life by a kid on a field trip who was getting bullied for being too white and rich and made a wish

Ben Carson was supposed to be an extra but is sleeping with the executive producer and the writers have no way to justify his presence.

Read an article where local GOP voters were asked who they're gonna vote for and a couple folks described Ted Cruz as "plastic milk jug man" and "slimey".

I think it was dad lost my ipod mentioned the idea of Trump walking back or articulating through surrogates. It's a novel concept, but runs the risk of him appearing an empty suit. With his "political" vp pick, possible money and donors lining up behind him, and if he starts getting household names attached to him it could be painted as him just going after the title and will just let the party run business as usual (which is what I personally suspect is the case regardless of how it hashes out). It would be the one thing that might lower support from his core.

in 2009, ted cruz had a wax model made in his own image. but the wax was cursed, taken from candles used in satanic rituals, and the statue was possessed by a demon. as a man of god, cruz recognised the danger and threw it into a furnace to destroy it, but it escaped only half-melted, killed him and took his place. now it has set its sights on the highest office in the land it has boundless reserves of cunning, and yet, mortals interacting with it can sense something, in their bones - that the creature before them should not be

It would be the one thing that might lower support from his core. his ideal position would be to not walk anything back at all, but if he has to (and he does have to, even he recognizes that), his ego will probably demand it happen through surrogates. this might be less a tactical choice (although it does help his projection of strength to leave the admitting of fault to inferiors) than a simple personality quirk. i doubt very much it will harm him with the base, since they're basically locked in and as low information voters his core will dismiss any word that their hero has betrayed them as anathema, but conversely it won't help him with waverers as much as if the walkback came from him. this isn't uninformed speculation-- it's started to happen. it actually seems like christie's renunciation of the muslim ban is a test balloon. trump's strategy is unconventional but he does appear to trial run his various gambits before deploying them on a larger scale. the one thing that could lower support from the core would be to say that he's not going to build the wall or, alternately, say that he supports amnesty (of course he's on record as supporting it, but he has never used the magic A-word)

Yeah trying to put a dent in his base support is a fool's errand even with that attack angle, he'd really have to open himself up for a beating for it to be worth it to attack his hard support.
