Vox Nihili posted:If you need me to explain why black voters were more excited about Obama than they will ever be for Clinton then you're beyond help. The hottest of takes. Reminder that multiple black majority counties in SC broke their turnout records. African American share of participation in SC was 64% as opposed to 57% in 2008, indicating that nearly all of the decrease in turnout was among white voters. The obama coalition turned out hard in SC and voted overwhelmingly for Clinton. I apologize that this doesn't fit your narrative. ![]() e: clarified one statement Schnorkles has issued a correction as of 19:47 on Mar 1, 2016 |

Vox Nihili posted:Right, the counterpoint is mostly that Clinton isn't a young, charismatic black man striving to be the first African American President, which is an historic event that moved the black community to absolute record levels of engagement. Yes. And part of that was Obama worked very hard to ensure those black voters stayed with the democratic party and remained engaged. In fact he sights one of the biggest mistakes he made in 2008 was not campaigning after he was elected to help the dems out in following elections. If Obama wasn't trying to keep the black vote engaged this cycle and if the black vote wasn't also going to be one of the major deciders of this primary I would agree with you. Once you bring a base into the party and give it a large amount of influence it takes a long time for it to go away. We can actually see this in the current GOP!

Hey, I'm glad that the black vote is with the dems and that minority participation is up. I think it'll give Clinton the win in 2016 over Trump, which I am genuinely thankful for. But you're kidding yourself if you think that the black community has as much invested in Clinton as it did in Obama. It's just not the same. We'll see the actual numbers come the general.
