Ghost In The Shell isn't about "are AI people" it's "are people still people" If you replace your legs with bionic legs are you still Human? Of course you are. What about also replacing your arms with cool super strong ones, and replacing your heart & lungs with an electric pump. And your eyes with cameras, ears with super microphones, etc. How much of you needs to be left to still qualify as Human? Then what if you made a synthetic brain comparable to a Human one and downloaded yourself. The phrase "ghost's can't be copied" more accurately translates to "souls can't be copied" ANIME WORDS!

It's still not revolutionary just because it wraps scifi and humanism around the Ship of Thebes. But at least the action is good.

Are you still human if your DNA gets rewritten? If your neurone nuclei get hacked? Because retroviruses like HIV and herpes do this on the reg. And what's the point of being human anyway? There are theories on the origin of life that heavily depend on viruses rewriting genetic material for developing and stabilizing the ur-goop into organisms that are around today (liposomes to unicellulars to multicellulars, single stranded rna to double stranded, to ss dna to ds dna, single membrane to double membrane to nucleic plus extra cell membrane outside of nucleus). We are merely a step on the way to something else. Does it matter if we choose where to put the next foot? Progress through purification through murdering the sick is my point.

Life itself is self-replicating information. Technology is part of evolution, as it is an increasingly efficient way for information to replicate across generations. Thus, any intelligence created by humans is a continuation of human evolution. Let me tell you about Ray Kurzweil.

Literally, I mean, not like an insult. Is it ironic that the people who want to gently caress their own mothers made you realize you can gently caress yours? Or is it the opposite of irony? Let's have an irony derail!

Let me shock you guys by telling you consciousness doesn't exist What we think of consciousness is actually just our brain computing and interpreting internal and external stimuli. If a computer did it the exact same way as humans then they would have "consciousness" as well. Also free will is a lie, as you have to interact accordingly with your environment. The only choice to prove if there is free will is to stop existing.
