EDIT: Yeah, just looked it up and it was episodes 136-220, which originally aired in Japan on May 18th 2005 and Feb 8th 2007, respectively. So almost two years straight of filler. Some people think that its to buy time for Naruto GT to premiere. How did they put a filler arc in the final battle? It's a spoiler, but there is one issue devoted to everyone's dream worlds and they have expanded that one issue into a full series. This includes an entire alt-world arc where Naruto's parents never died. I'm not joking. a cartoon duck posted:So I stopped watching Super after the third or so episode and only watched the latest one when I heard Goku fights Winnie the Pooh, so what I wanna know is, when did Goku become friends with the king of martians? That guy is the King of the Milky Way. They figured it was polite to invite him to the tournament, since most of the fighters were from his galaxy. No one really respects him though, as they are buddies with the gods, and personally killed the Emperor of the Universe three times.

The King of the Milky Way was pretty great, but personally my favorite part of this arc so far has been the performance of the Universal Anthem. That little penguin walking out there, the big intro, everyone selling it afterward, it was all so good. My enjoyment, much like the universe, was so vast.

I've probably missed the bus on this discussion, but individual frames are a poor standard for measuring quality since a lot of framework is deliberately "Bad" or "Weird" because they're going for a particular effect like a character snapping dramatically from one position into another one, or moving very quickly. What matters is how it looks in motion. I haven't seen Dragon Ball Super, and I'm aware that most Japanese animation doesn't quite run into this problem since there's a stronger reliance (in general) on talking stills and limited animation due to budgeting, it's just something that always irks me a bit when someone posts a "Wacky" frame and asks what the animators were thinking. If you didn't notice a problem while it was in motion, then there wasn't a problem. By contrast, of course, if you did notice it then yes, there may be a problem.
|
# ? Mar 4, 2016 08:01 |

But there is a difference between smears and related tricks to improve and smooth out how motion looks like and plain off-model animation. So yes it does looks bad in motion at times. I get the saving time and (therefore) money aspect but after thirty years and on a series as famous as Dragonball you tend to expect better.

Yeah, like I said, I don't imagine it's super relevant in this particular case, but I'll often see people screencapping wonky frames that are wonky on purpose as part of a larger sequence going "Ha ha what do these guys do all day." Just an old irritation resurfacing. My post wasn't directed at anyone in particular, it was just tangentially related. Carry on.
